Got a qustion for you all. I recently got ahold of a Rem 700bdl LA for a donor rifle. Im looking to make a 300 win mag out of it. It was a 30-06 and obviously needed to switch out bolts. I was able to get ahold of a magnum bolt from a friend of mine in a trade. I went to check for fit in the action and the bolt wouldnt fit due to the lack of a milled groove in the right lug. Is there a difference in the years on how bolts are cut. If so, can I have the groove milled into the lug without compromising its integrity? Thank you for your time guys.

Re: Rem 700 Bolt production years

The 'anti bind rail' was added to the 700's when they started with a letter prefix, so roughly 73ish. Yes you can have the slot cut into the lug to fit. Just remember that you 'may' have some issues with feeding from the standard 06 to the belted cases. Feed rails are a bit different and might need some material removed to feed reliably. Never tinkered with the above mentioned but have with the short actions using a 223 based receiver for a 22/250 or 243 diameter round. Just something to think about.

SDWhirlwind, thanks for the reply. I couldnt find anything regarding it through google. Probably just didnt word it properly. Regardless, Ill be taking it in to the smith to mill.
