Gunsmithing Rem. 700 fail to cock?

I recently purchased a brand new never out of the box Rem. 700 and after about 250 rnds the damn thing failed to cock. On just about every 4th or 5th round I'd notice the cocking indicator was in and not out. Took it to my armorer and he took it apart and advised that the sear screw was over-adjusted and a second screw (can't remember what he called it, but remember something about trigger release?) was improperly adjusted. He said both of these screws would have been touched last by the person who assembled the rifle. Has anyone else heard of this happening?

Re: Rem. 700 fail to cock?

Thanks for the tip. I had the armorer replace the sear screw and he adjusted the release. I put roughly 60 rnds down range since the adjustment and haven't had any issues.

Re: Rem. 700 fail to cock?

Did he say the screws were not properly set at the factory or that they had worked out of adjustment?

A weapon cocking properly for 250 rounds- doesnt sound like it came from the factory improperly set, more like no dollop of lacquer to lock the set screws.

Anyway, if you want, check the screws and maybe use a drop of nail polish to lock them down.

Good Luck
