Rem 700 in 260??????

Does Remington make a rifle chambered in 260? I have been looking and short of checking every model on their website I have not been able to find one they produce.

I am not sure, we took my son's .308 and had a barrel made for it

I think its only in the model 7 now, many years ago they did have a 260 varmint. It had a rather slow twist IIRC.

If you want a factory 260 rifle, your best bet is the Savage 12 LRP: Savage Arms

No, because Remington lurves 308s and has pretty much abandoned the 260.

But you can spin an AAC 260 barrel on any 700 you want...

Yeah saw that one already and really like it but its 1000 bucks.

1000 bucks isn't a bad deal. You can search for one in 6.5CM or 243 WIN also.

Yeah just didnt want to spend quite that much since I'm pushing 2-3k on a 243 build at the moment.

Shilen also makes a 1/8 twist varmint weight Rem 700 barrel already threaded and short chambered. Midwayusa sells them for like $300.

So from what I understand all I need to do is swap the barrel. The bolt face of a 308 and say a box mag will work? Am I correct in thinking this?

You are correct in that the magazine and bolt face will work with the .260. It is a .308 necked down to 6.5mm so everything but the barrel is identical. I would find a donor action and have a good smith turn a high quality barrel for it, about the same as buying a new gun in .260, and it will be more accurate.
