I just bought a Rem 7000 VTR for a gift for my father, when i go visit him. I went to go handle it and make sure everything was working. I loaded the bullets and pushed the bolt forward and it makes a god awful scratching sound, upon ejecting the round there is a scratch on the casing from where I presume the rifle etched into it. I'm not a big bolt action person, only fired used ones that have been polished up. Is this normal for this to happen for a new bolt rifle? I was going to call a gunsmith to smooth it down and make it quieter. This is a hunting rifle, and my father is a big "don't put a bullet in the chamber until your ready to shoot" attitude. The sound would obviously run off game.
Thanks ahead of time.
