Okay, so I've been a reader of sniper hide for some time now and find a lot of the info on here very helpful but I have a few questions so I thought I would finally register.

Ive been a long time R700 shooter and have a Sendero .308 Rem with quite a few mods such as a Lilja 1.5" dia 28" barrel with 6 port brake, Harris Bipod, Mcmillian A-5 tactical stock, blueprinted bolt, and Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40 optics.

I've been wanting to get a 300 win mag and recently found a Rem 710 in 300 win mag in very good condition that I can get at a great price. However I am unfamiliar with the model 710 and would like some advice/input as to the build-up ability of the 710. If this model is a viable base model to build on it would make my build much more economical than going with a new sendero or sps.

Thanks for any input,
Matt

Re: Rem 710 questions

It is good for a hunting rig. There are no aftermarket stocks and the raceways a plastic. I use one in 270 for hunting. It gets the job done. But no buy a model 700 if your wanting to go Remington.

Re: Rem 710 questions

Yep go with the 700, there is no upgrade items for the 710 and the barrel is pressed into the receiver and not screwd. Yes the action is strong and the bolt has numerous locking lugs, detachable magazine but there is nothing for it for upgrades. I scratch my head wondering what Remington was thinking when they developed it. It has some great ideas that they could upgrade all 700s to for a new generation of 700s but it is like some engineers design got short changed and they just rushed it too market as a Wal-Mart gun. It has a lot of potential if they had finished it. It was my sons first hunting rifle for elk and the dang thing was very accurate and it was tough.
