of course yesterday when i needed to use my 870, the ejector spring went south (PN F18855 #20 on the remington 870 schematic). a 4.00-5.00 part.

i'm not a gunsmith, but not afraid to tinker or fix something within my means, i don't have a drill press, but a hand drill & dremel and other hand tools.

i've seen the restaking tool at brownell's for $53.00, the ptg rivet cutting tool at midway for $26.00 brownell's for $29.00. so with working knowledge of how "stuff" works, should i buy one of these tools, a new spring, and have a go at it, or just take it to the local professional?

generally - rule of thumb - how much does something like this cost for a pro to do?

is it really as easy as it looks on youtube? can it be done without having a drill press and just rotate the rivet cutting tool with a dremel, hand drill, or just by hand?

parts if replacing it all:
870 ejector spring F18855 $4.75-5.60
870 ejector front rivet F18646 $4.75-5.00
870 ejector rear rivet F18647 $4.75-6.00
870 ejector F99539 $10.30-13.00 (should this be replaced?)

i've read that if the rivets have to be replaced and get knocked out , the receiver / rivet has to be refinished, i'm not too really concerned with that as it wears a side saddle.

thanks for any info.
