Hey guys, im not sur if i put this in the right place or not, but here goes. I have a Rem. 700 sps tactical in .223 and i want it to turn into a .308. HA. Could i buy a .308 barrel and bolt and still use the same reciever?

Go for it! Any short action caliber you want should be good to go (with barrel and bolt swap). However- you could always just pick up another gun. Local add for Dicks sporting goods the other week I saw had 700 SPS V's for 400 (450-50 Mail in rebate). I almost bought myself a 22-250 but I'm stupid so I didn't.

easier and cheaper to sell it or trade up for a .308 at a gunshop. The cost of a bolt, barrel and proper headspacing isn't cheap.

Well im pretty attached to the action, and don't have room for another complete gun.. I'm thinking a Bergara 26 stainless varmint and a jeweled rem. bolt.

Nothing wrong with Bergara barrels or their change barrel system.

What if i buy a factory take off barrel. Would head spacing still be needed?

Keeping an eye on this thread. I have an action that is very sentimental to me as well and am wanting to change calibers.
