im fixing a Remington 11-48 old shotgun and after i found a spacer it needed it broke an extractor or extractor/plunger after 40 shots of #6. if someone knows how to take the bolt apart and/or knows a better place to buy parts than ebay $40. if this is normal and extractors just break, or could the fact it was ammo from the 80's effect it? any info would be nice, thanks in advance.

Extractors are rarely drop in parts. Basic gunsmithing for extractors. It most like broke because it wasn't fitted right. 100 percent sure the ammo didn't break it. thanks, in thinking about just buying the complete bolt for the extra 30$ and not worrying about trying to get the bolt apart. i tried before when i was cleaning it and it was a pain.
The extractor in a Remington usually is a trouble free part unless the spring and plunger get fouled from rust or crud. A replacement bolt assembly may or may not have the parts fitted right. They need to be checked in an assembled gun with actual ammo. It needs to snap over the rim of a shell with no assistance while resting against the shell. If you have to bang it shut it's stressing that extractor. The extractor slips right out of that bolt when you know the trick. A few strokes with a diamond file will have it purring in no time.
Cleaning that gun for normal maintenance you should not be detail stripping it every time. That's a repair move. Some things are crimped, riveted, swaged or peened on some gun bolt assemblies. There is a part in the 1100 trigger that is tac welded. The recoil spring tube and mag tube are silver soldered in place. Even a master hesitates to completely take a Remington shotgun piece from piece.

thanks just waiting till im hands on the gun before i order the parts. there looks like there are alot of different models of bolts.
