Well I was able to take my rifle out today and play a little since I just received my case of, what is suppose to be subsonic, Rem 220gr OTM.

Every single round fired broke the sound barrier. WTF?

My rifle is a Rem700 with a 16" AAC barrel on it.

Anyone else have the same issue? Now I F'n stuck with a useless case of ammo. Too fast for subsonic use and too slow for supersonic use.

Seriously WTF do you do? Pull the bullets to reload it or just put it in the closet and chalk it up as a learning experience?

Didn't have a Chroney with me this time. I will next time out. And I did have a suppressor attached that is why it was so obvious that they were breaking the sound barrier.

I'd say reload. Have you chrono'd any of them yet.

Could be that Rem made them to chrono just below the speed of sound, and their amazing QC is making a show stopping appearance.

or

They are loaded to be just below 1116fps at sea level and you are way up in elevation. Are you shooting in the parking lot of hurricane ridge, LOL?

This would not be the first instance of less than stellar performance of that particular offering from Remington.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. But it may very well be a altitude thing-but that is speculation on my part.

I would echo transinator's reply. That stuff is expensive and if it isn't subsonic like advertised, I'd work on getting reimbursed.

Subsonics almost demand hand loading due to the nature of the beast. Differing altitudes, weapons, barrel lengths, etc make a must to tune a subsonic round to your weapon. Add in the fact that you want to get as close to barrier without breaking it, it just necessitates handloading.

I'd be interested to see how this pans out.

From what I have been able to find. They are suppose to be loaded to 1010fps. At who knows what elevation. I am probably about 10' above sea level. I have emailed remington asking for a replacement, but MidwayUSA is where I bought this ammo from and I am pretty sure that they don't accept returns on ammo, like every other shop that sales ammo.

I could pull the bullets and toss the powder but I already have a box of primed brass waiting for me to set up my reloading press.

He He, freeze them mothers on dry ice... then you'll look like a mall-ninja-sniper on the range...
"smoke" bubbling out as you reach for a rnd.

Seriously, Send it back... if they were sold as sub's, that's what you paid for & did not get...
