Gunsmithing Remington 5r misfeeds

I recently purchased a Remington 700 .308 5r milspec. Once the magazine is fully loaded (4 rounds) the bolt skips over the cartridge instead of grabbing and feeding it into the chamber. It leaves some pretty good scratch and gouge marks on the unfed casing, and has no problem feeding each round after the first... I thought that the spring might be too strong, being brand new, but after working the spring and loading about 200+ rounds through it I still have the same problem, that first round will not feed... Any suggestions?

Re: Remington 5r misfeeds

Sounds like a mag lip problem. Either it was machined wrong, or there is burr on it. Either way, contact Remington and have them fix it.

I have had similar issues with my 5r after a full teardown and devcon bed, check and make sure the spring is facing the right way under the follower, and also are you using factory or handloads?
