I know I have read it on here somewhere, but cant find it with the search function. Where can I find a remington 700 action/bolt that I can buy without having to buy a complete rifle and pirate those 2 parts?

Re: remington 700 action question

And if you do get one through Bugholes here on the site chances are it has been through Chad Dixon's (Long Rifles Inc) shop and been trued with a dual pinned recoil lug. He does top notch work so well worth the money.

Re: remington 700 action question

Try Pacific Tool & Gauge. They sell a better quality bolt body than any factory original. About $110 plus whatever a handle costs. Buy a Tubb speedlock firing pin assy and you're set...

Looking to get a complete action and not spend over $1000

checked brownells, they say the remington short action is discontinued and not available, only actions they have for sale are a .300wsm or a long action .308, or for $1400 plus the surgeon actions

I thought bughole had the Tac 30 for 900? Bumping that 1k hard but it IS a Stiller and good to go.

Re: remington 700 action question

I've read enough on them that this spring I expect to start putting the pieces together on a Stiller Tac 30 in 6.5 Creed.

Just can't go wrong at that price/quality and I'll have the resale over a warmed up R700.

Re: remington 700 action question

If you decide on a Stiller from Greg (bugholes) you might as well get one of his barrels and have him chamber it and screw it on.
He did a Rock and a Brux for me on my 700 actions and both are first class.

My next project will be a Brux on one of his Stiller Tac 30's.
Greg's a great guy to deal with. He's got time to talk to us little folks.

Re: remington 700 action question

To be completely honest, I admit I was looking at his prices and thinking "Damn, they aren't bad, but definately more than I want to spend on a stock action, then send it out to have it trued, etc, etc"

Don't know why I COMPLETELY overlooked the obvious! I wouldn't have to send it out and spend more money to have it trued, so it would actually cost damn near the same if I found a stock and sent it out, or just ordered a BugHole action.

Thanks a lot guys for all the info, makes 1 more piece of the puzzle that much easier to get this new piece built
