Remington 700 bolt

I just got a replacement bolt from ptg. This is their 700/721 replacement bolt, no the 1 peice.

The problem is it won't close in any of my actions. Upon closer inspection this measurement is about .1 more than the other bolt i measured. Woukd this be what is stopping the bolt from closing? Can you cut that much off the lugs?

Is it to long in the front of the lug or the back? Is the lug hitting the barrel or the recesses in the action?

Looks like it's on the back of the lug but nearly as much as I said. The other bolt measures .440.

I have not pulled a barrel to see if it will close. I did make sure the nose fit Ina barrel I had laying around.

.100” or .010”?
As far as I know, PTG or anyone else doesn’t offer drop in bolts for 700s.

Edit: are these bare receivers you’re trying, or are there barrels on them?

Not sure who you use for a smith down your way and worth talking to Fritz at Black Canyon Customs here in CO. Larkspur to be exact.
For my daughter, I had a SA 700 with a .473 bolt and had a .380 bolt to be fitted and a .223 barrel done up for it.
I didnt measure stuff, but wasnt right to start and he said it was easy peasy to fit it when doing the barrel.

Daughter is 13 now and thinks she is hot business smashing steel with ease at 500 and 600.
Seeing her watching the grass and mirage and tweak her wind hold just a touch between shots to get a follow up hit makes me real happy.


Anything he has done for me has been excellent and all our barrels from him are lasers.
