Remington Action ..... what to build?

My buddy has an nice looking Remington rifle in his shed. It's a 30-06 and is left over from his gun shop days. He only wants 150 bucks for it. The only thing wrong with it is that the bolt is missing. I thought about going to PT&G and having them make me a new bolt. But, not sure I want a 30-06.

So, my question is this. What should I do with it. It's a damn nice reciever and looks very lightly used.

(before you waste your time and post "I'll Take It" ...... forget about it)

Thoughts??

If its a Remington 700 long action for 30-06 and you are missing the bolt its the best time to just buy a bolt with a magnum bolt face from ptg and go 300 win mag or 7mm mag. You could just get a standard bolt face and run the 30-06 but whats the condition of the rest of it?...I would build a 300wm personally

Re: Remington Action ..... what to build?

since you dont have a bolt i would buy a One peice from PTG with a mag bolt face, sako extractor, tac bolt knob, etc, etc,

Build a 338 Edge!!! It would be perfect for you since you already have a 7 mag. the 7 mag will do anything the 300 mag will do. Actually the 7 mag will do more!!!

But not more than the 338 Edge.

All you need is a PTG bolt for around $200
barrel for $300,
Chamber it in 338 Edge for another $200. And you will have a super long range tackdriver!!!!

For about $700 plus the $150. $850 for a custom gun is pretty darn good.

I agree. If you already have the 7mag and want something different, this sounds like a good opportunity. I turned a 270 into a 338:

Re: Remington Action ..... what to build?

It would be used for just about anything. Some long range, alot of paper and some hunting. I live in Washington State, so I could hunt deer, elk, bear etc. Although, that's not that important since I already have other rifles that could cover my hunting wishes. I'm sure my 7mm will take down just about anything I want.
