This is my first post, I found this site while trying to research my first rifle purchase. I have spent about three weeks looking into buying my first rifle. I own a few in varying calibers that have been given to me, I've hunted a little bit and after getting out of the marine corps I want to get more into hunting in the mountain west mostly elk deer and antelope. I looked up ballistic charts, reviews, videos and asked family and friends. I have about a thousand dollars to put into the gun right now, I have a Leopold vx1 3-9x40 on a howa model 1500 270 That i was gonna use for right now. So for $1000 do you guys have any advice, maybe different rifles to check out scopes mounts triggers or custom work That could fairly cheaply get me a thousand yard tack driver for hunting with a max cost reaching about 2-2.5k for an end product. Also any information would a helpful since I have only basic knowledge.

I've never seen a remmy that didn't shoot well. Even a stock sps with a better stock will shoot lights out. If your cap for the gun is around 1k, you will be hard pressed to beat the 5r. Stock is good to go as well. Slap on quality rings and base. Top with a swaro or zeiss and go to town. Unless you want a ffp scope, then...well, skys the limit
