I got my first externally adjustable 700 trigger on a 700 Tactical .223 yesterday. It has an Allen head adjustment screw directly into the trigger itself.
I can't keep up with the recent changes, so I'm wondering if this is the crappiest one of the "new and improved" Big Green triggers??

Re: Remington X-whatever trigger?

My experience is they are hit or miss. I have the X Mark Pro on my sps. Factory adjustment sucks. Go to erniethegunsmith.com and get the trigger spring for it, costs about 6.00. It will let you adjust down further. Without dumping alot of coin on mine, I have it to 2.5# verified and consistant with essentially no creep. It breaks clean, and I am happy with it for now. Money well spent on something else, unless you hate it that much. To each their own.
Good luck!

layinclose, great information about getting the spring as was told locally user can dial down to about 4 pounds, but to get less take to a gunsmith. Will be buying some of those springs you suggest.

Also please note some have taken apart then are unable to put back together at:

So when get the spring and go to install be careful to take pictures or make notes if needed taking apart so can get it back together.

Re: Remington X-whatever trigger?

Mine adjusted down to 3.5 pounds with no problem.

I believe that they advertise the sbility to go down to three.

I also have the older X mark, I had adjusted it down too far, it was still safe but very inconsistent. Once i raised it to around three pounds, it was fine.

It is easy, there is only one spring to replace. MAKE SURE that you use some nail polish or something to secure the screw from backing out. Then you can back out the screw on the shoe. I found if you remove the screw, the spring is captive inside, but the trigger pull is inconsistant. Leaving the external adjustment screw in place and backed out with barely any pressure did the trick for me. Trial and error with a trigger pull guage. If you mess with the sear side, that is where a qualified gunsmith or experience come in handy, and is a must for safety.

Good luck.

Re: Remington X-whatever trigger?

Thanks guys.
I'll tinker with it next time I go to the range.
If I can get it down to a consistent 2.5-3 pounds I'll probably keep it. If not, I've been looking for an excuse to try a Timney anyway.

Re: Remington X-whatever trigger?

I musta got lucky, my SPS SS 300 win mag came with a nice 3.5# trigger, no creep whatsoever, no overtravel. Its not a Jewell but for a hunting rifle its dam near perfect.

Re: Remington X-whatever trigger?

I adjusted my x-mark trigger a couple times but I was never really happy with the break. So I put a Jewell trigger in which breaks clean and allows me to get more consistent tight groups.

Re: Remington X-whatever trigger?

I just got a new 700 and the first 2 things I did was replace the stock with a HS and the trigger with a Jewell.

Re: Remington X-whatever trigger?

This one breaks at about 4.5 according to my cheapo spring-type trigger scale, and no creep or overtravel. Not really too bad. I'll shoot it a little and then tinker with it.
Thanks everybody for the info!

Re: Remington X-whatever trigger?

I took my Xmark to Mac's gunworks and he got it down under 2lbs with is really nice. He said not all of them will do that. I noticed he messed with more than just the screw in the trigger shoe though.
