I have a Remmy 700 that was a custom job, it is a .308 shooting FGMM factory and the primers look like this, is it normal? Thanks!

Re: Remmy 700 primer hit

Ya thats normal.

That dimple look is also common in rounds that have been fired in 700's. The primer hole, I believe is too large, so the primer itself flows slightly into the hole.

Also, notice the nice rounded edges on the outside of the primers? That is indicative of what a primer looks like under normal conditions.

Take into consideration sometimes primer flattening isnt always a tell-tale sign, but in most of the cases it is.

If you want, Mike Bryant can bush that firing pin hole so it doesn't do that. Remington's started doing that fairly recently; apparently they've changed the way they manufacture their bolts slightly.

It shouldn't cause any problems, unless you like to run your loads near (or right at) max.

Re: Remmy 700 primer hit

My brand new 700 Stainless Fluted .308 does the same thing, and it was built by the factory about 3 months ago. They just made the bolt hole too big.

Midway sell's an oversize firing pin that will elimate this...if it bothers you.

Mine shoot's great, so I don't really worry about the rings on the primers.
