Hey guys, I'm having an issue with my trigger. Remmy 700 Sps factory trigger. Here's the problem, I adjusted the pull weight and thought I went too far cuz I did the bolt slam shut test test to see if the firing pin fell, meaning the trigger pull was too light. Well it fell, so I proceeded to tighten the pull weight screw back up and tested it again... It still fell. I then proceeded to tighten the screw a half turn and test again until low and behold, I had it tighter than it was from the factory, and it still falls when I slam the bolt hard shut. I did not adjust the sear screw or the backlash screw, only the pull weight screw. Did I screw (no pun intended) something up, or do I have one of those fabled bad bolts that have been in the news recently?many thanks for your input guys,

Taylor

Re: Remmy 700 triggers problems

this kind of problem is very hard to diagnose without having the trigger in person, one thing to look for though is maybe you backed it out to much letting the trigger return spring move when you bump checked it.

then when you went and re-tightened it, the return spring might have binded up somewhere in the channel not allowing it to return fully to engage the sear.

i would try looking there first.

Best $150.00 you can spend for the amount of satisfaction you'll get in return. The older Remington triggers are good ones that are simple to work with. If it's a newer one, then why struggle. Get a Timney.

I had the same thing. It turns out I somehow broke the connector inside there even though I followed the correct directions.

I sent it to a well known Hide 'smith who replaced the connector and tuned the trigger for half the price of a Timney. The beauty is, I like it better than the Timenys I own.

Jewells are great too, just a bit pricier. I have both and actually kind of like the blade on the Timney better, both break super crisp.

To the OP - Are you sure that you turned the correct screw? From the sounds of the problems, you may have adjusted the sear engagement screw instead of the pull weight screw.

Re: Remmy 700 triggers problems

Start from scratch and adjust all screws. Sounds like if its older remington trigger and not the xmark garbage that you need to back out the sear screw. Just google Rem 700 trigger adjustment and you will find several write ups and use there directions and start from beginning. If you get no where just sell it and get a good drop in unit like Timney, Jewell or rifle basix

THIS. It's easy to do, especially for a first timer. Ask me how I know..
