Gunsmithing Removing brass marks?

Hey all - a number of my firearms have some markings on them where brass has rubbed against them. I've tried CLP, patches, a rough textured towel, and a cleaning toothbrush, nothing removes it.

I'm no metallurgist, but it seems to me brass smudges should be easy to remove from hardened firearm steel

. Any tips? I'd like to avoid sandpaper of any kind as I'm fearful of altering the finish, even to the slightest degree.

Thanks all!

Re: Removing brass marks?

I had the same problem with my AR rubbing against the buttons on some overalls. realized it when I got to the camp and had marks all over it. nothing I did would get it off. they almost gone though, just some time and a few cleanings has removed it.

Sounds stupid, but it works...
Get one of those really gummy erasers, I don't recall the brand but they are pink (yea, cute, I know)...
Just erase the brass marks, won't scratch *most* finishes.
YMMV
