I found some good deals on 139grn Seirra MatchKings, unfortunately they are moly coated. The shop said I cna tumble the Moly off of the bullets. Is this correct? Any other way. They are 6.5mm and I'm interested in stocking up for my 260 Rem build. Any info is appreciated

Re: Removing Moly from Bullets?

I've easily removed moly from bullets using M-Pro7 bore cleaner in an ultrasonic machine. That cleaner is an absolute carbon cutter and will remove moly pretty quickly.

Exposing my ignorance here, but why are you concerned about moly in the barrel? Does it build up over time like copper, only it's harder to get out?

What are the advantages of a moly bullet?

Yes it builds up, and yes it makes for cleaning your rifle so much easier - it has some great positive benefits!

But yes it builds up in the barrel and while you can shoot it and shoot it (You'll see great performance for several hundred rounds of copper AFTER moly) - it's hard to get out.

I ran JB Bore paste and then went with the Tubbs Final Finish - it was gone then...

Seems I had to use a bit more charge to get Moly bullets downrange, but the black hills moly 175's I ran performed RIGHT TO 1000 yards, but out of a 22" ba rrel I could hear them going subsonic about 50 yards behind the 1000 yard line...(I was in the target pits, it's a neat sound)...

Not worth the effort, IMHO....

Re: Removing Moly from Bullets?

I have several partial boxes of 75 and 77 grain molly bullets and I have the RCBS vibration machine. If I put these bullets in and the molly comes off then I assume the walnut will be contaminated with the molly and should be thrown away?
