Tornado season is upon us in the Midwest and Big Piney did not escape unscathed, Strong straight line winds wrecked our 600 yard target line. Here is our answer to the problem. At the tune of several thousand doallars,We have 18 new double target stands. They are steel braced frames anchored with 2 foot rebar.

Re: Repairs at Big Piney!

If its F-Class or Tactical Marksman Match, We start at 100 yard firing position. When the line is clear and everybody is heading to the 200 yard firing position a group of score keepers jump in a atv head down range score and paste, come back..ready the line... fire...repeat back to 600 yards for light tactical. repeat back to 800 yards for everybody else. After 800, targets are pulled final scores added. This works well with 4 score keepers, and takes about 10 minutes between each position.
We have enough room for 36 shooters for the first relay,
say we have 40 shooters show up. usually locals and Staff will put themselves on second relay so evryone else can get done and move up to the 3 gun course going on.
pasting works well and lets every one see how their doing at 100 yard intervals.
Benchrest works a little different, as does the Night Shoot. Night Shoots are a big suprise as we start at 600 yards and move forward to 100 yards no scoring or pasting between postions.

Re: Repairs at Big Piney!

no shot to shot service or pit. once upon a time we had a single service pit target frame.
We shoot 5 shot groups from each firing position for open class division.
7-6 shot groups lite tactical division.
F-Class pasting starts at 300 yards.
most of the time we can see holes out to 300, after that it depends on your equipment.
everybody likes it when those little white stickers go up especially when their shots are in the black and you cant see a damn thing until then.
plus the target crew keeps a running tally and carries a walky.
If your number gets called out during a match its cause you your group was good.(1 sticker covering 5 holes).
or check your equipment cause something is wrong.(you shot the wrong target or no holes on paper.)
pretty good system for us.
