Sgt. Wade Wilson served with 2nd Battalion 5th Marines out of Camp Pendleton, California. He was KIA May 11th, 2012 in Afghanistan and posthumously received the Silver Star. He had been in the middle of piecing this project together when he was killed. Several other Marines, including myself, finished the project for him.

RIP.

Could you post the narrative for the Silver Star medal? We should be witnesses to his selflessness.

I second the narrative. He and the builders and his buddies who finished it did an excellent job.

Wilson was in his armored vehicle when “an insurgent posing as a civilian retrieved an AK-47 from a poppy field 20 meters away and opened fire on four Marines in the downed vehicle, critically wounding the Marine in the rear of the vehicle,” states the citation accompanying the Silver Star Medal.Wilson “immediately withdrew his M9 pistol and, leaving the safety of his armored vehicle, fearlessly closed with the insurgent, placing himself between the critically wounded Marine and the insurgent’s barrage of fire,” the citation states. “Sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, he continued moving against the enemy until falling mortally wounded.”

Damn! It's hard to see a good man go. But we know he was the kind of man that we would all like to say we are. May he rest in peace. He earned it.

Thanks for posting this BlackWhiskey and for you and the brothers in finishing this rifle in a tribute to Wade. RIP

I just got out of the military and will never forget giving the flag that was flown at our command to the parents of a good friend. It's a bloody honor to have serviced this country among men like Sgt. Wade Wilson.

Awesome stuff finishing up that rifle for him!

All gave some - some gave all.
To all of our service men, present, past and future we thank you.
Sgt. Wade Wilson has a special place in our hearts and minds today.
God bless those who loved him and will never forgot him.
