Gunsmithing Rethreading a 1/2x28 muzzle brake to 5/8x24?

You have to cut the threaded portion off then square the face up and turn it down to 5/8 (.625) make a relief cut at the squared shoulder and cut your threads from there. Not a hard job but you have to have a barrel with an overall diameter a tad bigger than the 5/8 diameter.
You may be better off using a 1/2x28 to 5/8x24 adaptor.

I'm pretty sure he is asking about a muzzle brake not a barrel.

The muzzle brake is a SilencerCo ASR .22cal and they only offer it in 1/2x28. I am building a 22 CM and would like to use this brake so I can use it with my Omega.

I would much rather have the barrel threaded 5/8x24 than 1/2x28. If it is possible to have the female threads opened up to 5/8x24, I'm definitely going to go with that.

assuming the threads were cut properly, you should have just enough room to drill out the 1/2 threads and retap it for 5/8 threads.

if you have a lathe, its a 30 min job.....otherwise a gunsmith will likely charge you around $75-150
