Retumbo VS H1000 For ,338LM

Re: Retumbo VS H1000 For ,338LM

This oughtta be in the reloading section.

Seems to me like most folks are having better luck with Retumbo, provided you run it at/near max pressure. Max loads with retumbo and 300smk makes for a stout load.

Re: Retumbo VS H1000 For ,338LM

H1000 is faster. Not by much, but it's all it takes to make the difference most of the time. I just picked up the Savage 110 338 HS Precision and my first trial loads will be with VV N170, H1000, and Retumbo. Every gun will like something a little different so just buy one pound of a couple different powders and see what yours likes. Work up loads for each powder and try to test load at 300 yds or so because this will give you the best idea of what your load will do at longer ranges.

Re: Retumbo VS H1000 For ,338LM

Retumbo would not group at all. H1000 is running about .5 moa from 100 out to about 600 meters. After that it opens up, I think because my ES of about 40 -60 fps. Right now I am trying to fine tune that down, but not real sure what to do. I'm going to play with seating depth. I've been playing around 90-91 grns of h1000. But be careful its hot in my rifle.

I have run 93.5gr of H1000 in once fired Lapua brass with FGMM primers they are running around 2950 and have been grouping about 1/2 to 3/4 MOA. I don't remember the seating depth off hand but it's greater than 30 thou of the lands. More develpment to come.

Re: Retumbo VS H1000 For ,338LM

I have heard that a guy named Shawn Carlock has done extensive testing and concluded that retumbo was more tempature sensitive than H1000. H1000 shoots 100 fps slower in my gun and doesnt group well either so i chose retumbo. But keep in mind I'am not as picky of a shooter as some!!
