Looking for first hand experiences on the Zeiss V6 5-30 models. Reviews are pretty spotty, but the scopes havn't been out all that long. I did find this one, http://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/zeiss-v6-tracking.6868752/ OP seemed to have some issues with tracking.

I'm primarily looking for a 2nd focal plane optic with MOA based Reticle, Good Turrets, Zero Stop, and Good Glass, 4-5 Minimum power and 25 or so on the top, Max budget of $1600 and <30 OZ.

Zeiss keeps coming up because it checks all the boxes. This will primarily be a long range hunting optic so it needs to have good glass and reliable turrets. Any long range shooting is done at known ranges and I prefer to dial for shots in lieu of using a reticle so tracking is very important. Weight is also a serious consideration, The V6 is on the upper end of what I'm comfortable with, but acceptable at 27.9 oz. I've only owned one other Zeiss scope, an HD5 5-25 and wasn't entirely thrilled with that one, but the V6 on paper is a much better optic. V6 doesn't have nearly the amount of elevation or windage adjustment of a more tactical oriented scope w/ a 34mm Tube, but for my uses it should be more than sufficient.

Any first hand experiences with these scopes? I'm probably going to be buying it sight unseen because I can't seem to find one locally to look at.

I don't have a V6 but I have a few Victory HTs and the V6 is supposed to have similar glass (flouride, Lutotec, T*). The Victory HT is legendary and the best glass I've ever looked through. Resolution, light transmission, color spectrum are fantastic. If the V6 is similar you won't be disappointed.

I do have a V4 3-12x56 #60 reticle. For the money it's a terrific scope.

Zeiss's long history is in it's glass and its hunting scopes. I would say you're right, if you're looking for all the tactical bells and whistles you won't find it with Zeiss. Their target market doesn't need all the tactical stuff and to some degree they are trying to accommodate these trends in the American markets. I hope they don't go down that slippery slope too much.

If you want the some of the best glass in the business, Zeiss is a great choice.

We have one as you noted with your link to that thread, i wouldn't personally pay $1600 for our model but that's just me. Honestly i just hate putting MOA optics in rotation of our rifles. If they'd sell me the Euro Version i'd probably have one. We have the 3-18x50mm haven't really had time to see if it's performing as expected since we've gotten back. It's nice glass is good i don't have any really detailed explanation like i would normally try to convey because i honestly have zero'd the gun and ran it to 600yds and that's it. It's Dad's he spends most time behind it. I noticed you mentioned quality turrets. They're nothing special IMO feels just like the HD5 to me a bit mushy but distinct enough to be usable.

Eyebox is nice, CA control is very good, edge to edge clarity is very good, it's a quality scope. Zero stop is rudimentary to me but better than limiting the rev like the HD5 zero stop. If it's a good deal i'd say go for it, i don't think you'll be disappointed. Zeiss always has quality glass to me.

I guess what i'm getting at is this. Are you expecting glass along the lines of Kahles, S&B, NF, etc.? That it isn't but it's quality for it's price.

I have the 3-18x50 (I wanted more elevation than the 5-30 would allow, be sure you verify that model will give you enough). I personally love it. It's on a 6.5 SAUM lightweight long range Ti and carbon hunting rifle. For me it's been great. It's taken some falls with a dear loaded while strapped to the pack and while a small mark, turrets have been spot on after. I don't baby it by any means. 5RWill mentioned the turret feel, I personally love it. It feels identical to my 5-25 ATACR Enhanced (Gen 2 SFP ATACR) turrets. I've hiked to hell and back with it in a Kifaru gun bearer or strapped to my pack, and through Western WA for bear, and haven't had either turret move on me yet. I've only taken it out to 1380 yards but it has been very repeatable for me. I haven't done any box tests however. For guys who want a lightweight SFP optic with exposed turrets, I personally don't feel there is a better one. I prefer the V6 to the Leupold HD6, especially the turrets. As far as glass, it's a personal thing. I think it's better than my 7-35 ATACR, but behind my S&B PMII. My dad and I have both have this scope with great success, so a small sample size of 2. But if they are all built like our 2 are, I think it would be very hard not to be impressed.

She's the gun/scope combo up front. Just got back from opening weekend for WA deer. 11 miles, 5k elevation gain, and camped out at 7k feet. Last morning found a rock at 1049 to make sure everything was still on and hit about 2" right of dead center.
