I was thinking about having the 4" barrel on my S&W 500 replaced with a 8 3/8" one. I have looked briefly on the internet for a source for revolver barrels but have come up empty handed. Any ideas/ suggestions of where to look, or for smiths that do this work?

Contact Smith and Wesson themselves.

Re: Revolver rebarrel question

Pistol barrel blanks are sold by brownels and crafted into pistol barrels by pistol smiths

Re: Revolver rebarrel question

This would certainly be a job for S&W.

However, why not just sell the 4" model and buy an 8+3/8 model to replace it? These pistols are not rare, and used ones are almost always *barely* used, and all command just about the same price, between $900 and $1000.
