My son, 14 years old, is itching to get involved in long range rifle matches.

I have an extra impact action laying about.

    What chassis would you recommend.

Further what barrel contour/length should I be looking at?

He shot a match with my 28” HV 223. But, it is just too heavy for him. I’m looking for a chassis/system that can grow with him.

A good friend has offered a used 24” M24 dasher barrel for free. He does not know the round count. I do not currently shoot dasher. Is it possible to ream dasher to GT w/out setting it back?

I have a Bushnell DMRII for an optic.

PS.. huge thanks to our squad leader, Trinity (pictured below), for being such a good coach to the boy at his first match. He managed to shoot every stage even though the rifle was 20% of his own weight. He was fearless!

For adjustability and lighter weight I would personally go with a KRG Bravo. They are fairly reasonable in price and balance well with most barrels without needing to add extra weight to it.

I would be looking for maybe a Sendero Contour. Barrels keep getting better and better. I'm not sure that heavier offers the same advantages it used to.

A Bravo with a rem varmint type profile barrel at 22” with a 223 wylde would be a nice gun and cheap to feed.
