Good morning, I picked up my 700P yesterday and upon recommendation, ordered the Near base. The bolt went out to Hoopers to have the Badger knob and handle tapped. I have the Eagle stock pack and the Harris. SHould be getting the receiver 8x40'ed when I get the base next week.

I've decided on the NF 3.5-15 x 50 and Seekins rings(like the looks and they are good). Having enough room for lens covers, what ring height do I need? I guess the only other concern would be if rebarreled down the road, will a heavier profile barrel come into play?

I also think I will order that bipod/sling rail Seekins offers. That will help in the safe(easy off) and the other bipod I have with the Larue mount will do double duty on the mini SPR.

Re: Ring height advice-please

I have a 20 MOA base and medium rings with a 50mm scope on my FN PBR XP and it fits just fine.

So, I'd say medium is the best guess. Lows will probably be too low.

Hey Mark,

This may or may not help, but what I did was call the place that I ordered the base from, and asked them how high the base is from the top of the front part of the receiver, to the top of the base. In my case that was .400" (EGW 20 MOA Pic. Rail)

Then I took a simple socket that was exactly 1" tall, set it on top of the front part of the receiver, then set the scope on top of it. Measure the distance between the bottom of the scope bell to the top of your barrel and subtract the height of your base. Subtract the distance/amount of clearance you want from that number as well and you will know exactly which height of base you will need.

Every company seems to use different way to measure there ring height's so you may have to call Seekins and find out what the distance is from the top of the base to the bottom of the ring where your scope will sit, and make your decision.

I have know idea if it makes any sinse, but at least I tried, and it worked for me. I got my scope as close to the barrel as I could get.

Good Luck,

-Pat
