My goal obviously is to get maximum speed before too much pressure
I have them loaded to 2.90 oal just kissing the lands
My question is would it be better (pressure wise) to compress the load a bit more for say a 10 thou jump?

Thanks I actually have and all I can say is WOW , that is the thread that inspired me on this endeavor
I am shooting a gap with a 22" 1 in 11.25 twist bartlein hoping for 2500 fps

Just an update I jumped them 10 thou and I have a great load at 46.4 that shot 2530 fps and another at 47.6 that shot 2600 fps
No pressure signs .
I will run some more test for sd's and group size.

1. Make sure you are using Winchester headstamp brass, its the roomiest and that extra space lowers pressure (PS I have some if you need) 2. use at least a 6 inch powder dropper, this will naturally compress the powder getting an extra 2-3 grains in the case giving you more case capacity/space, 3. moly coat you're 208gr AMAX bullets that will again lower pressure by reducing friction as much as 20% (I got 2400 and one of the the guys on here that wanted some did not come through so I have an extra 500, Ill have some moly coated by Tuesday, if you need)

I took your advice usmc I used the powder dropper ( really does make more room for seating) at 48.2 grains it got too compressed for me to keep consistent oals. I used lapua brass but my nodes seem to be lesser charges anyway. Not sure how I feel about moly yet , I really could use some more 208s I think I have 20 left. Pm me a price for 500 no moly though I may try it eventually , I would also like to try some Winchester brass , never have used em, pm me for those too.
This is an amazing combo if I could get into the mid 2600s or 2700 that would make things real interesting at the comps.

why. you can shoot 168 and 178 grain bullets flatter from your 308 if you want to load them as hot as you are trying to load the 208s. get a 300 wm+ if you want to use the 208 a max. 2700fps is a light load for the magnum calibers

Flatter yes but even at a modest pressured speed of 2530 it beats the pants off my 168 and 175 load at distance as far as wind resistance. If i want to shoot flatter then ill use my 155 scenar load at 2875 fps,if you do the math you will see the advantage the 208 has.

I only buy what I can carry, 10.5 inch 300 black & a 22 inch .308 Tikka tactical stick with what is abundant: 9mm, 5.56, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, 12 gauge. Try lugging a 15 lb. 300 WIN around with you if the SHTF! Then try n find ammo for it!

2530 is not a modest load with the 208 in a 308. i stand by my assertion if you want to shoot it a 300 wm or somthing of similar powder capacity is the best bet. but yea 178 at 2800 92 inches of drift in 10 mph wind at 1000y. 208 at 2500 76 inches under same conditions. at 500 yards the 208 wins 16.5 to 19 so i can see a modest difference. i just have not seen competition shooters that load for velocity instead of accuracy. that was the reason i stopped with the 155s need 2900 to stay super sonic to 1000y. not an accurate load for my gun. so i went to the 175 shoots great around 2700 in my 308 26 inch 1 in 12.

why would i go anywhere in a shtf situation. i will stay home and help my neighbors. are you going to go fend off the whole world and survive in the wild. i think this prep-per mentality is stupid. safety in numbers. neighbors helping neighbors. go hide in the hills by yourself. we will not let you back into our society when you slink back out. i do carry my 13 pound 300 win mag around with me. try carrying a 27 pound barret. oh yea people do that too. if everyone preps and buys the same caliber it only makes sense that ammo will be gone first right. those were the first ones to disappear from every store shelf when all this prepper crap started anyway

if you get the 155s to 3100 you will have the same amount of drift as the 208. would you have more powder space behind the 155? i am not trying to criticize. just asking questions. how long does your brass last. with 46 g of varget and a 168 mine needed annealed after every second reloading. the 208 a max stays supersonic longer too. i see what you are chasing at 68.5 4831sc 2690 out of my 300 wm the 208 a max is supersonic to 1750 yards. the max load with 4831sc according to my hornady manuel is 68.9. berger data for the 210 vld starts at 69 at 2679 and goes to 72 at 2819

I understand your opinion, and im sure you enjoy your 300 win mag, i only have my 308 and i enjoy safely expermenting with different bullets/ weights.I also said modest pressure not load, the load is kinda flashy. What i mean is no pressure signs (rounded edge primers, no heavy bolt or swipe) The recoil is larger but feels slower,in all honesty i have to test it further out to see if its worth it. But 2900is my Scenar max, accuracy was best at 2870,hence mythe expermenting with the heavystep stuff. We dont all have the
money to buy the optimum rifle for each bullet weight and i believe the 308 is a good all around caliber.
To each his own

i was only comparing those numbers because the hornady manuel lists max velocity for the 178 at 2700 and the 208 at 2450. i think what you are doing is cool. i tried the 208 a max in my 308 too. i just had some questions for someone who went the extra mile i did not with it.

Who said anything about staying here in the hills, Im getting da fuhk out! Got people in safer places, enjoy the FEMA concentration camps run by those 15,000 Russia "emergency troops" The prez signed off on!

HEY! What a coincidence! OUR GOVERNMENT TAKES ALL OUR AMMO & RUSSIA GETS MORE TERRITORY, OOPS AND NOW SANCTIONS TO CUT OFF ALL THAT FORIEGN AMMO COMNG IN!
