Anyone have any better info than "sometime after the 1st of the year" on the availability of these? Have been ready to pull the trigger fr awhile but am close to giving up and going the 1.1-4x short dot route. Had one, loved it, sold it anticipating the 1-8x version and have been kicking myself since.

Re: S&B 1-8x

I don't think you will get a more accurate "estimation" of availability than that. There is nothing worse than rushing a product to get it out in the field and realize you have major issues. A company as big as S&B with a optic that carries a price tag that high needs to make sure its ben tested, broke, fixed, reworked and ready to go.

Looks like the USO 1-8 will be ready to go late December......

Re: S&B 1-8x

Yea, I hear that. I am a S&B junkie and know they're doing it right. BUT it's been frustrating waiting on these since SHOT 2011.

Thanks for the feedback.

Re: S&B 1-8x

It seems like it was announced several shot shows ago. I actually held one in my hands at SCI a couple years ago. I have some on order, but the reticules still are not exactly what I would like. P4F

Re: S&B 1-8x

I gave up, twice, buying a 2.5-10 NF the first time and a 3-12 Hensoldt the second.

S&B is pissing off their customers announcing this and never delivering. If it is not ready, don't show it and talk about it.

Re: S&B 1-8x

I talked to an S&B engineer at the SHOT show last year about this scope. He said it was very difficult going from second to first focal plane. He said they needed to make new equipment to even manufacture the scope. He said it would take a year to make the scope which puts it in 2013. The one at SHOT seemed like a nice scope but it sure has been a long wait.

Re: S&B 1-8x

I had the S&B 1-8x here for a weekend and did a quick review of it... I was not impressed and if the price is anything like they have been talking about, I would totally pass on the scope. When you consider the price on the Leupold is coming down, I actually like their 1-8x better than the S&B, given my needs in a scope like that.

With all that said, if I wanted a scope to do what is billed as being done by the S&B 1-8x, I would totally get the Vortex 1-6x. I really liked that scope and for the money think it is a much better bang for the buck. The Vortex is nice optic, built like a tank and ready for your short, semi 308 .

The S&B was more like their 1-4x with a bigger eye piece and felt it really only shined at 3x and below where, when I compared it to the Leupold, I felt the Leupold was better 4X and above. Also I found the Leupold magnification easier to use, and was bit more comfortable with the Leupold locking turrets compared to the S&B.

When you look at the roll these scopes were designed to fill, sure, 2 years ago when they started teasing them at SHOT, there was only two too consider. Now everyone has caught up and in my opinion surpassed what was seen then. Heck even Bushnell has some nice options in 1-6x, 1-8x scopes coming out for a lot less money.

Save your money, get the Vortex

Do you know if they're going to have exposed turrets on the new 1-6x?

Re: S&B 1-8x

Lowlight you said the S&B shined from 1-3, how tight was the eye box? I have one of the original premier 1-8's they let out before the redesign and it's so fickle I can't even shoot it from the standing on 1x.
