(See New Post Below for update) It became unreliable!

Got a Body Guard 38. Like all J frames it conceals good well. No external hammer. It's lightweight. I have only put standard 38 special through it, even though it is +p rated, as I actually worry about how it would hold up to the high pressure rounds over time.

The trigger is a heavy double action like most revolvers, which is ok. The laser is terrible, just to hard to too get it on. Its also in an awkward place. You have to move the thumb to the top left next to where a hammer would be if it had one. Front sight is black, a colored sight or night sight would be nice, especially since the laser will be worthless in a real scenario if you had to draw, acquire target, and shoot fast.

Recoil is not bad with the standard pressure 38 rounds. Some might like an after market grip to get better stability.
Accuracy is one par with a typical snub nose. Just made for close encounters. I was able to put every shot in the 10 ring at seven yards slow fire on a man size silhouette. Rapid fire everything hit the man size silhouette within the 7 ring.

Over all its's it's ok. Night sights would have been nicer than the laser. The button for the laser should have been on the grip. If your looking for a light weight snub nose, I think an LCR with crimson laser grip would be more practical, but I got a good deal on this, so it will work for now.

Pardon my English grammar, for the last 20 years in school they have been more focused on proper grammar is Spanish classes LOL.

Got pics of the Gun, nothing special. I Haven't took pics of the target yet, but I will, then I'll post them.

The J and K frames are conducive to a very smooth DA pull and a crisp, light SA pull. You might consider having someone who knows what he is doing perform an action job on it.

So by all accounts that's just a 642 with a laser on it?

Sweet looking pistol (Google) though!!

I have the 642 Airweight, it's a fine shooting pistol.

I've put a few +P rounds through it, handles it quite well.

It's a great carry gun, although not as lightweight as the LCP, if I go to the big city the 642 is my carry gun.

And best of all, leaves no evidence shell casings behind, making it very environmentally friendly!

Yeah the trigger feels a little mushy to me, but not so bad that I think it needs to be worked on given the guns intended purpose, which is close social work.

The cylinder release is on the top, where the hammer would have been, instead of the left side. Probably good for lefties.

Re: S&W Body Guard 38 Review For Conceled Carry Update

The laser became unreliable. Sometimes it would not turn on, and sometimes it would turn off after a shot was fired.

The revolver also developed a problem with hanging up. I would not trust my life to it.

I did hear that S&W would fix these issues.

Re: S&W Body Guard 38 Review For Conceled Carry Update

The BG38 is a new departure in "standard" S&W engineering and design.
Here are the differences between the BG38 and the 642:
* Frame is a combination of polymer and aluminum alloy
* Cylinder latch is on top of frame instead of side
* Cylinder rotation is opposite all other S&W revolvers
* Laser mounted on right side of frame and not activated by grip pressure (Crimson Trace has the patent on grip activated lasers)
* There is no hand. Instead, the cylinder is rotated and held in the frame by a single "gear" in the rear of the frame
* the ejector rod will not spin the cylinder as in all other S&W revolvers
* Grips are held on the polymer section of the frame by a roll pin. No after market grips are available at this time
* The internals of the action are different as well and do not lend themselves to a "tune up" (most who have fired mine have no objection to the factory trigger pull)
