Rifle Scopes SA 4x14x56...any good?

Re: SA 4x14x56...any good?

If it is a gen 3 it is probably fine. The target in my thread in the reloading section was my return to zero after cranking up all available adjustment and shooting at 780 a few days ago. mine is a 6x24x56

Re: SA 4x14x56...any good?

I just came into a 4-14x56 Springfield Gen-2 scope. It was mounted on ... let's call it an AR-10 type rifle that I recently obtained.

Anyway I played a little musical chairs with my scopes and I thought I'd just sell the Springfield scope to recoup some money, but now I think I'll hang on to it for a while. It's pretty feature-rich for what it is: FFP BDC reticle for 168gr 308 match ammo, objective lens paralax adjustment, zoom, and the internal bubble level.

Sure, nestled among all my USO SN3-2200s it will develop an inferiority complex, but if it can hold zero I'll be thrilled! It's going to hang out atop my LRB M25 for the time being.

Re: SA 4x14x56...any good?

My buddy had a 6-20 Gen III SA scope and after about 8 rounds through his M1A we watched the thing start throwing shots everywhere and and wouldn't hold zero. Then the objective bell come loose so that it could be wobbled back and forth with my hand and almost came off. I wouldn't put any of my money towards a SA scope after watching that.

Re: SA 4x14x56...any good?

I was ROing the ITRC a few years ago and noticed a competitor shaking the hell out his rifle after every shot. Turns out the internal bubble level had broken loose and was obscuring the reticle, he'd shake it out of the way, fire a shot and repeat the process. I made a note to never get a scope like that!

I've had a Gen 1 on an HK-91 for close to 14 years. It's been fine and I could probably make a bit of money on it above and beyond the $400 I paid for it back then.

I personally think that when they started adding all the bells and whistles to the subsequent Gen 2 and Gen 3 models, their quality control slipped. Also, they're not Tac-Ti-Cool enough for some, but mine is fine for now...knock on wood.

+1...
I had one that I could not bring in focus past 250 yards.....
To be fair, their customer service was good, The evaluated/repaired it quickly...
but when I got it back, it was still unfocusable....

Re: SA 4x14x56...any good?

Probably a good idea to pass it up for something better. I have one of the 1st gen models on my Savage 10FP. The BDC reticle is nice, and will get you pretty close with most 168 grain and heavier loads. The glass is complete crap though, not clear at all past 100 yards. Lack of parallax adjustment causes issues with long range shooting as well. At 1000 yards I notice a major shift between reticle and target when I shift my head even slightly. I'm looking to replace this thing with just about anything at this point. Even my Leapers Accushot is a better scope for long range work than these.
