Shooters, I just finished up with a build for a customer this afternoon and figured I would share. I have not had a chance to take it out yet and test fire it, but everything turned out perfect, so I know its going to be a shooter.

I will post the specs later tonight.

Mark

Re: SAC 6.5 CM Creedmoor build!

Mark, the rifle looks great! Can't wait to get it to the range to try it out.

Thanks for all your help with this project.

Joe

Specs:

Surgeon RSR (from SH group buy)
Rock Creek MTU 1 in 8 (From SH group buy)
McMillan A5 50% black 50% olive (JW Precision)
Timney 510 trigger
Badger M5

I'll post some pics with scope and give a range report once I have it in hand.

24" I started to go shorter but decided that 24" was a good compromise.

Re: SAC 6.5 CM Creedmoor build!

Thanks guys.

I have finally settled on doing my thread protectors this way and I hope you guys like them. I have noticed that others show exposed threads or gaps between the barrel and the thread protector, but I try to hold my tolerances within .0005" when doing mine. I also dont like to run the knurling all the way back to the barrel shoulder and I think it looks pretty sharp this way.

If you guys like it or have any suggestions let me know. I will definitely try to get you what you want.

Mark, that is awesome work. When I get my finances squared away I have a rifle I am going to be sending you. If it comes out anything like this one it will be a work of art.

Re: SAC 6.5 CM Creedmoor build!

Bad ass rifle! Love the thread protector Mark, great job as always. If my past three rifle from you are any indication, the customer is going to have a real shooter on his hands!!!!

What AR work do you do? I couldn't find it on your web page.

Just give him a call and he will be able to answer all your questions.

I do custom builds, accurizing and supplying barrels made by Bartlein and Krieger contoured into various AR contours. These barrels benefit from the same chambering technique that my bolt gun builds do.

Let me know what you have in mind and we can go from there. I should have some AR-10 6.5 and 30 cal barrels, and some 6.5 AR-15 barrels ready to go early 2011.

So that's the rifle you were talking to me about(Sid with the FNAR). Damn fine job Mark.

I'm gonna have some more work for you in about 6 months or less, R700 build in 6mm.

I agree. That crown on the thread protector is sweet.

Re: SAC 6.5 CM Creedmoor build!

My thought when I saw the first pics was, "Damn, that's an awful short thread protector. Can't be enough thread under there." Then, I saw the pic with the thread protector unscrewed a bit and it hit me. "Wow." Very clean machining, nicely done.

I have a suggestion. Put an index mark at the middle top of the end of the barrel. So the owner has a mark to index off of for a muzzle brake or can.

Re: SAC 6.5 CM Creedmoor build!

Nice job on the thread protector mark. Now if you only knew how to shoot the thing, you'd have a true winner.

Re: SAC 6.5 CM Creedmoor build!

Here are a couple pics of rifle at the range. The workmanship is really nice. I can't say enough good things about it. The rifle functioned and shot great. I had my scope a little to far forward and it was difficult to get a good cheek weld but I still had some great groops with the factory ammo. Will start working on some loads soon.
