Terrible news. Regrets and prayers go out to his family.

When I complain about load books, I usually have to make an exception for his.

I have scanned and converted to text, some of his data about overloading surplus military actions.

It is not easy to stay relevant that long after you are gone, but he has done it.

Re: SAD DAY FOR ALL OF US

I have both volumes of Ackleys books. Have had them probably 15 years, and read them cover to cover at least a couple of times. I think they are quite possibly the most informative reloading books out there.
The man certainly was a pioneer in much we take for granted today. His accounts of his research and testing methods make for first rate reading. It seems he truly thought out a lot of things others overlooked or just ignored. His concern for the energy needed to impart spin, and the ensuing results on bullet performance are just a couple of things I have read of nowhere else.
I highly recommend these books to anyone wishing to expand there knowledge of things that go bang. Besides they are entertaining as hell.
