Back in 1993 when I first saw a Blaser R93 rifle, it came with what the Germans called a saddle mount. Now a lot of people are making them, and even more of them are now made for 1913/Weaver system rails than were ever made for any German direct to barrel mount system.

What are you guys calling it? I think the name saddle mount is the most appropriate, as the mount saddles the barrel or receiver.

I have seen them advertised at least 5 or 6 different ways as:
Saddle mounts
Ring mounts
Direct mounts
One Piece top mounts
QD 1913 top mounts
IDEAL SCOPE MOUNT SYSTEM
And probably others out there and I have not heard or read before.

What do you guys call it?

I am going to continue calling it a saddle mount, to me that makes the most sense and it is the name I was using for them before I ever saw one on a 1913 railed gun. Even Accuracy International called theirs a saddle mount.

It really doesn't matter what kind of interface the mount connects to, it saddles the barrel or action depending on the type of rifle you have.

Re: Saddle Mount/Scope mount terminology

Hi

To me saddlemounts refers to the specific mount of the R93.
I have never used that word for our mounts or other manufacturers mounts.

ISMS
Ideal Scope Mount System
The idea behind that name is that it's actually à system, while mostly others makes mounts for the scope alone our mountsystem is designed to also at the same time as the scope also provide mounting possibilitys for NV, thermal, illuminators, laser, secondary sights etc

Re: Saddle Mount/Scope mount terminology

Hakan,

Thanks for taking the time to post.

No matter where I go in the world, everyone calls these type mounts something different.

While I agree that Blaser calls their proprietary mount system a saddle mount, many others have been making similar mounting systems like the Sako TRG and Accuracy International mount for years.

I guess I'll keep on trying to fallow the local phonetics to avoid confusion.
