I'm thinking about picking up a Leofoto 364 or 324 (I'm pretty short) and putting a saddle on it. I dont want a ball head so an RRS TA-3 seems like the obvious choice, but I'm hoping to shave some $$$ off the total package. Is anyone else using a half-ball setup that doesnt have clearance issues?

Were it I, and a were using only a leveling base, I'd go for the ARCA lever option, or use an Abel table (direct thread) with a bag of some sort across the table. This would allow you to still somewhat "cradle" the rifle in the rest, but still give you the option to shift the rifle forward at an angle should you need the additional inclination.

The saddles were a good option many years ago, but things have advanced beyond them today IMHO.

I hadn't thought of that actually, thank you. I do have a gamechanger, maybe that would be the best option. I could get a decent set of carbon fiber tripod legs and mount a table on a swivel.
