Re: Sako guys...custom build advice.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain! LOL...
I had the exact same reaction when I saw Glock's rifle, and 7mos later, I'm well on my way to an equivelant build, thanks to countless hours of generous coaching and input from Glock24, to whom I am greatfully indebted.
I found a very rare find...an M995 in 7RM, which is what I'm building, with less than 50 rnds through it at almost a give away price. If you shop, they're out there.
In Nvember of last year I ordered a gain twist #9 contour from Bartlein and a T4A stock from Manners. The barrel has been delivered, and still waiting on the Manners.
Mac Tilton of MT Guns, who is well known for his Tikka based bench rifles, will be doing the action work and barrel installation. I'm currently waiting on a reamer from Dave Kiff at PTG.
Couple things to point out:
The M995 is about the only Sako action anyone has any experience with when ordering a stock, and will still be a custom inlet.
Bottom metal can't be used from the factory stock. McMillain is where I got mine.
The Sako barrel threads are metric...not all gunsmith are set up to cut metric threads on a barrel.
Scope bases are another limited area, but there are options.
Everything will be expensive.
When you're done, you'll have a second to none rifle, IMO. The factory trigger on the Sako is buttered glass and so is the action.

I'd buy a TRG-42 but, I really don't like the stock, so for the same $ or less I'd like to build something custom. Is 2k reasonable?
Figure
$400-600 for an Action,_
$700 Hart barrel, installed and trued
$500-800 for the stock
$200 20MOA Rail
Have harris bipod. So, $1800-2300?
Scope is still up in the air. That is a whole differnt topic.
I'd also consder using the berger 7mm bullet, if it will reach as far as the 210Vdl I already have a box of.
Goal is 1500Y and maybe a few lucky 1 mile paper shots. </div></div>
