Sako (not TRG) questions

So I'm thinking of getting a Sako and I recall reading, last time I was thinking of getting a Sako some years back, that certain iterations of the 75 were better than others. Anyone recall which?

How much more expensive is it to rebarrel or repair the trigger v. a 700? I guess I just don't know much about the cost on some things for it.

Also, while I am just restarting my reading on Sako's, I recall reaching the conclusion that 75>85>A7. Sound about right?

Re: Sako (not TRG) questions

I will first say I am a fan of Sako's. There was a problem with some 75's with the stainless barrels splitting. I think it was rare, I don't really know. There was one version with a weird key lock on the bolt shroud that made it look like a droopy butt, there was also a version without this.

You shouldn't be charged anymore to rebarrel a Sako than a Rem unless the gunsmith doesn't have the action wrench and has to buy it or something. I'm thinking that the barrel threads are actually inch like the Tikka's, but don't quote me. The trigger on the Sako/Tikka rifles is very good, and you can get a couple aftermarket triggers, Barnard is one example.

Other than scope mounting, the 85 has about all the features I consider best in a bolt gun (especially if you added a TRG trigger). The 85 is different than the 75 in that it has a sort of controlled round feed. I haven't tried my 85 out yet to really see if it works as claimed. There are some other minor differences as well. The A7 is the cheapo version. So really you have to decide if you like the 75 or 85 better. Both have short bolt throw, fixed ejector, feed from a double stack mag, etc.

Re: Sako (not TRG) questions

Great rifles - I own a Model 75 AI (the baby of the pack), in 222. Very well made. The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of an aftermarket mag system (the originals are expensive and only 6rds) and the tapered dovetail system on top. Apart from that, very good stock trigger and the action is butter smooth.
