I am in the process of building a sako quad trainer, and I have the manners t4 stock ordered the action purchased, and pretty much everything else ready to go except for the Lilja barrel. I just can't decide which caliber to get the: .22lr, .22mag, .17mach2, or the .17hmr. So I am going to leave it up to the members of the hide, whichever caliber gets the most votes is what I'm getting.

Also, reasons why you voted for either caliber would be appreciated.

.22LR; Overwhelming variety of ammo for match, plinking, hunting, and economy. Established and well earned reputation for accuracy, you will always be able to find fodder for your rifle. More affordable ammo means more time sending lead down-range. Isn't that one of the main purposes of a trainer?

Oh, by the way... the other calibers are only a barrel (and possibly a magazine) away. If you want to change-up down the road, it's pretty simple and more affordable than a whole new rifle.

17hm2. Since you haven't told us what you are training for, then I chose the round that I think gives the best accuracy for the money in ammo. IF you don't like it, then you can ream the barrel out to hmr. It will also use the same magazines as the 22lr.
