Shameless plug for Benchmark Barrels and the crew. This project started when I considered building something different for the new match rifle. I didn't want another AI, but considered a Badger M2013 action on a KRG Whiskey 3 for a AI/TRG feel, then I came across this TRG and figured I'd give it a go for the new build. The TRG arrived at Benchmark and the factory tube came right off, the new barrel is a Benchmark 1:7.5 twist chambered for the 115gr dtacs, medium Palma contour finished at 24" and threaded. I have been running a 243 chambered for dtacs for the last 3 years, and wanted to stick with this winning combination. The previous rifle was running a 26" tube, I have noticed the load was fairly mild so it shouldn't be a problem running the dtacs around 2950-3K, even with 2" off the barrel length.
I received a call from the boys at Benchmark informing me the rifle was done, by far the fastest turn around ofany smithing job I have ever received. Fit and finish is top notch, as expected. I live 5 miles from Benchmark Barrels and shoot with the crew at many local matches, they are always a great bunch to talk to, always willing to take time to answer questions or just talk when I visit. Back to the rifle, barrel will be finished in cerakote stone gray to match factory phosphate finish, stock will be cerakoted in benchmade coyote tan. Since I know a thread is useless without pics, here are a few.
