What is the closest thing Samsung has to the iPhone? I want to be different.

Re: Samsung vs. iPhone

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Verizon is the latest (best) Android phone. The screen is incredible, super fast, latest version of Android. Unfortunately Verizon only.

The Samsung Galaxy S II is available on other carriers and is very nice - I just got one and love it. Super fast, very thin, good camera etc.

Re: Samsung vs. iPhone

How is comparing two cell phones sniper equipment related? I'm mew, but wouldn't this be better suited in the "Bear pit" section for general and off topic stuff?

Re: Samsung vs. iPhone

Ive also been wondering about some iPhone alternatives. I've had every iPhone that's been made from the original to the latest 4GS. However, with AT&T's latest bullshit, I'm ready for something else as far as a service provider.

They have finally come up with a way to screw the grandfathered in unlimited data plan customers (like me). Now, even though I have unlimited data usage, they have set a "limit" where if I go over this limit, my service speed will be decreased significantly. My bill stays the same, but my service speed decreases. I'm just one customer and me leaving them wont even be noticed, but atleast I wont have to put up with their bullshit.

Anyone else have unlimited data plans through someone other than AT&T with good experiences and fair customer service? We no longer have Internet at home, we never used it so we turned it off. We do everything from our phones and it's worked great until now.

Yes, 100 quality posts.....not just random observations and comments.

Re: Samsung vs. iPhone

Skid, this is the equipment section. Most people run ballistic apps on their smart phones so I'd say comparing two different phone platforms is at least somewhat relevant.

Trevor, I had every iPhone up to the 4. I have since switched to the Galaxy Nexus with Verizon mainly because in the AZ desert Verizon seems to be the only carrier that stretches out that far. I could have went 4s but glad I didn't, this nexus with the new android on it kicks some major ass. If you switch carriers don't count on getting unlimited data unless you go Sprint. Even then I doubt they will offer it much longer.

It's ok, just keep posting. You'll be able to sell your shit soon enough.

I am in the process of looking at the same two phones, so I found this a good thread.

Re: Samsung vs. iPhone

I just got the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Verizon LTE) last week and it is by far the best phone I've ever had. Super fast. Fantastic screen. Thin and stylish. I highly recommend it. Oh and Shooter ballistics app FTW.

Re: Samsung vs. iPhone

Have had 2 iphones, 3 and 3gs. Just got Galaxy s2 Skyrocket.
Different in how you access the controls. Lots more user friendly. The iphone is a straight forward phone. Hit the key and dial. Hit the key and text. Apps always there. Got to settings and search for what ever you want.

The Galaxy s2 is a step more, a bit more complicated until you get used to the phone.
FAST, woooooo NELLY!!! FAST!
Bigger screen.
Beautiful color screen. Camera (8megapix), flash, back camera.
Battery lasts all day long!
Go to work and the folks that have the iphone want to see it, then turn up their noses. LOL. No shit.
Entering the contactsis a bit different, and nice.

NO ITUNES BULLSHIT!!

Apps are a click away/iphone apps are there always.
Widgets, little gizmos that youy can put on the screen, like the weather, it is always there on a page.
If you like ring tones, down load the app and everyone you know and all of their family can have a ring tone.

Its a phone. I like it more than my iphone. Its badass.

Go to ATT an have them demo one for you.

Re: Samsung vs. iPhone

Wait on any cell phone purchase til at least mid February. There are many better resources for cell phone reviews than SH. But I will attempt. The best phones are dual core (two processors) and are fairly new. The technology is advancing so fast that the first quarter will probably bring a quad core phone. We are talking laptop cpu speeds and performance. I would review some sites like geek . Com. Your information found will be more accurate and less biased. My .02 cents.

Re: Samsung vs. iPhone

They won't run shooter the same. The androids will bluetooth connect to a
kestrel, the I phone won't, and may never. So yea the phone hardware is "sniper
related".

That's is what I need. How do you use bluetooth to connect to your kestrel.

Interesting. I checked their website and there is a Kestrel with built in ballistic software now as well. That sort of changes things a little.

Going thru the same BS right now!!! Just signed up with Verizon and I'm trying them out (you have 30 day pay for what you use if you don’t like them). Cell phone service is way better 4 LTE is wicked fast!!! I got the Motorola razr still getting the hang for it. Right now on the 4 LTE phones Verizon is running 4 gigs for 30.00 not the best deal but at least I can now talk on my phone!!!

Somewhat similar experience here. Apple: iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4, and iPhone 4S (my wife's

). Samsung: Galaxy S2 Skyrocket.

Yes Apple is more user-friendly and easier to use.

Comparing Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket to iPhone 4S:

Screen on Samsung Skyrocket is <span style="text-decoration: underline">much</span> larger in size - but its resolution is lower (you get 480x800 pixels on Samsung vs. 600x900 on iPhone 4S). So iPhone's screen is clearer/sharper - but I find Samsung's screen is easier to deal with.

Both have 8MP cameras. I'd probably give the edge to iPhone, but Samsung produced very usable photos and videos. Both are OK.

Battery life is fairly short in both, but both should last you at least one day. I haven't tried it yet - but I'm sure both can be charged via solar panel (I did it with iTouch 4 when we had a big power failure and it worked OK).

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Big Bo</div><div class="ubbcode-body">NO ITUNES BULLSHIT!!</div></div>
It's a mixed blessing, but in general I'm OK with both Android and Apple software distribution modes. In Samsung you can install pretty much any application - there's a Settings option whether to allow installation from places other than Market (Android's analog of iTunes). For iPhone - you can install an application from iTunes or forget it (unless you hack/jailbreak the phone, but that's a different story).

Now for the SH context.

I tried Ballistic FTE, Bullet Flight, Shooter and iStrelok on iPhone. They all work. I lean towards Bullet Flight - the simplest app ("soldier's application"), and accurate enough. FTE and Shooter come with a bunch more features. Both have their specific strengths. FTE doesn't have user-friendly support though - unlike Shooter. iStrelok is free, but I don't like it as it is too limited and inflexible.

On Android I tried Shooter and Senior Pro ("professional" version of iStrelok - user interface is poor, but the program is capable and presumably very accurate). There is also Bullet Flight for Android - it would be my next to try. So far Shooter does what I want and more: if I'm really lazy it gets weather from the Internet based on GPS location. It also gets weather from my Kestrel over Bluetooth. It can measure for me the slope angle to the target, and the compass bearing to it (for those who want to incorporate Coriolis correction).

I would say that Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket is better suited for running ballistic applications than iPhone - but both would do just fine.

Re: Samsung vs. iPhone

Samsung also makes Windows Phones (not to be confused with the old, clunky Windows Mobile) and they will be coming on strong in 2012. Although I will probably update from my Focus to a Nokia Lumia...if Verizon ever pulls their heads out and offers some. Right now, AT&T is the best bet there.

IMO, the one thing that Android has over its competitors is the bluetooth connectivity, which will be available with Windows Phone next update. Apple, I suspect, will never make that happen. Otherwise, I wouldn't get caught up in raw specs, such as processor cores and speed. Those come at the cost of battery life and don't necessarily make a phone work faster for you.

For instance, both Android and iOS are slower to render and output results. The ballistics app that I've written (and that will be available this week in a free version) for WP7.5 outputs a drop chart twice as fast as Ballistic on an iPhone 4. You can also pop right back into the app and instantly resume. Android is even harder to optimize. I was amazed when I read this post: http://blog.crazybob.org/2011/12/truth-about-android-ios-ui-performance.html

While any programmer using a mobile OS needs to pay attention to background processes, Microsoft paid attention to performance and user perception from the ground up. Apple, of course being Apple, has tweaked every detail of iOS it can. To Google, the whole idea of user perception has been an afterthought until the recent Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).

And that brings up another point. While Google has partially solved these issues by giving device makers open rein on whatever hardware they want - basically throwing more raw power at the problem - they have also made it near impossible to update a phone unless you go around the carrier. Carriers of course have a negative incentive for you to make your phone last longer. Apple has the best story here, followed closely by Microsoft.

Re: Samsung vs. iPhone

i have a dell steak 5 look it up love it , its bigger than most but that is what i love about it , and samsung has a new phone comeing out , dont know ex when but when it does im getting it

Honestly, the time (around one second or less) that Shooter takes on my Android to output a drop chart (<span style="font-style: italic">Update. Just measured: to output a drop-chart for 338LM to 2500m with 25m step and with Spin Drift & Coriolis enabled - took 1.6 seconds on Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket running Android 2.3.5.</span>) is plenty fast for me and my usage needs/patterns (Ballistic FTE on iPhone 3GS is maybe 2 seconds, half that on iPhone 4S). If it took three times longer it would still be OK.

So while I applaud the performance benefit of your application - my first gut reaction is "who cares" (meaning no offense whatsoever, nor trying to denigrate your results). It is a bit reminiscent of the "how fast can you change a caliber" pissing match not too long ago. <span style="font-style: italic">SRS rifle could do a complete caliber change in a bit less than 60 seconds, Vanquish - in 10 seconds or so. Faster? Hell yes! Do I care, or does it matter? Hell no!</span>

First, how many of us (ballistic calculator users) are going to program this thing, or truly multi-task it? Second - Android 4.0 is just around the corner. Compounded by the fact that I for one am perfectly happy with Gingerbread (2.3.5), I am very content to just sit and wait (happily using what I've got now).

Not sure I understand the point here. And we do go around the carrier if/when we need to.

Re: Samsung vs. iPhone

First of all I will start by saying Im not an iPhone phanboy or anything lol and I actually was against them...until I put my hands on one. I got the iPhone 4 through Verizon and I'm grandfathered in with the unlimited data plan. I tried most every mobile OS out there one by one and of all of them iOS is my favorite. Don't get me wrong I loved android too alot. I just love the smoothness and ease of use of ios. You can't go wrong with an iPhone. You can't go wrong with an android phone. You can't go wrong with a windows phone. You can't go wrong with a blackberry. You get the picture lol. It's all personal preference. Try a bunch until you find one that suits your needs/wants/expectations the best. For me it's the iPhone.

Now about ballistics apps. Does anyone use iSnipe on iOS? This is the only one I've used and I'm more than happy with it. Usually gets me great results.
