Bernie Sanders said at the debate the other night that he wants the minimum wage to be $15 per hour.

    $15 X 40 hr week = $600
    $600 X 52 weeks per yr = $31,200

Bernie Sanders wants free health care for all and was asked how he would pay for it. His answer was raise taxes to 52% on anybody making over $29,000 per year.

    52% of $31,200 = $16,224 in tax
    $31,200 - $16,224 = $14,976 is your pay
    $14,976 ÷ 52 weeks = $288 per week
    $288 ÷ 40 hr week = $7.20 per hour

So much for $15 an hour minimum wage .

    Think before you vote people!
PS Warren is just a diet version of bernie

mini mike and other billionaires like him will be taxed to pay for EVERYTHING!!

these guys can afford it! that is crazy talk that normal people's taxes will go up ;)

I don’t know if OP has ever paid taxes before but you pay different rates in different brackets. If the $0-29,000 bracket is 0%, and above that the next bracket is 52%, you would pay 52% on income of $29,001 and above.

Correct but he used the value of what the proposed minimum wage would be with a 40hr work week. In all actuality, if minimum wage was $15 per hour, very few of the current minimum wage workers would even get 40 hrs per week. They would get bumped back big time.

I'm not for socialism and get the general idea of the post but shouldn't this be an apples to apples comparison showing what current minimum wage is after taxes and insurance is taken out?

People making minimum wage get free insurance. 44% of tax payers don’t pay federal taxes, and many get free money on top of the welfare benefits they receive. Bernie and Warren want to double-down in it and call it free stuff for all!

It’s all about reading comprehension isn’t it, go back and read line one slooooowly

Referring to the current $8.25 an hour. Also, many people have jobs that require a spouse to have insurance if it is offered which means plenty of people making minimum wage have to pay for insurance if it's a full time job.

I agree. The other thing is that a majority of people in the lowest quintile don’t work and there’s a relationship between work and earnings. Shocker.

I can't wait for Sanders to take the win. Not the Presidency, but rather Trump's opponent in the final debates. You thought the Clinton-Trump debates were a trainwreck the last time around? Wait until the Sanders-Trump debate happens!

Lol it will be entertaining to say the least

    Easy fucking fix.
10% flat tax, on everything and everyone. No filing every year. No exemptions. No write offs. No refunds. No bullshit, Just a straight 10% taken from everyone and everything. In order to collect any sort of funding from the govt as an individual, you have to meet the employment standards set forth by the level of govt that you’re seeking assistance from.

If you aren’t a citizen, you don’t get shit. No license. No medical care. No employment (valid visa excluded). If you’re a vet, a portion of your federal 10% gets directed towards the VA and a portion of your state’s goods 10% goes towards your state’s veteran programs. If you’re a student, part of your 10% goes towards your states higher education system. If you’re a college graduate, part of that 10% goes towards employment programs within your state.

An even and fair contribution by everyone involved. Paying taxes definitely blows, but it’s a necessary evil. This way, everyone contributes the same and no one is exempt, regardless of income or spending habits.

Im obviously not an economics major so saying “easy” is a massive understatement lol, but hopefully everyone gets the intent.

But, but, but. Most youngins don't pay income tax, so they don't really concern themselves with how much or where it goes.
Could you imagine the shit storm coming from them if they had to pay a whole 10%?

They will vote for the Bern and then lose their shit when they find out 10% is a pittance.

Hell, most of them don't even know what sales tax is, or it's purpose.

The whole minimum wage argument drives me nuts. People think that if the minimum wage goes up, people are going to be making a lot more money.

Problem is, the price of goods and services will also go up by a lot. And I can guarantee that companies aren't going to eat the cost.

People may make more, but goods and services are going to cost a lot more, so at the end of the day, adjusting for inflation, they (the people making minimum wage) really won't be any better off.

Another argument that pisses me off is carbon tax, and I'm amazed that some "economists" argue that it will be a revenue neutral system which will not fiscally impact you or I. Bullshit. You think companies are just going to eat that cost? Sorry muchacho, they are going to pass that cost on to the consumer.

Just a bunch of bullshit, and people are stupid for buying into it.

I was going to say....taxes.....but then you addressed it. It's all about making people pay for the free stuff. You pay me in taxes, I'll give you free stuff!!

Hell, most of the one's getting "free" stuff don't pay into the system. The only way govt can give somebody something is to take it from someone else. That's why socialism always fail. The working folks get tired of being robbed, and decide to quit, transitioning from a maker to a taker.

How about a flat 10% federal consumption tax. No taxes on wages. You BUY something (except food) pay 10%. This encourages saving, and allows the decision making at the individual level.

Problem is the elite (who write the laws) don't want to pay 10% on their yachts and private planes.

The top 1 percent paid a greater share of individual income taxes (37.3 percent) than the bottom 90 percent combined (30.5 percent). The top 1 percent of taxpayers paid a 26.9 percent individual income tax rate, which is more than seven times higher than taxpayers in the bottom 50 percent (3.7 percent).

The amount of land is fixed though the value of it may vary. This variance is based primarily on the investment of others, be it nearby owners or the public via the government. So it makes sense to tax it because unlike a consumption tax that discourages economic activity or an income tax that discourages work, a land value tax does not discourage the existence of land.

You obviously have a raging boner for property taxes.
I suggest you pay all the property taxes you want to your hearts content.

The rest of us understand how things actually work and what freedom actually is.
We'll do our best to ELIMINATE and BAN the idea of property taxes for good.

Tell your drivel to the many people I talk to in my city who are very concerned about being taxed out of their homes and being forced to sell and move as they get older because property taxes quickly rise to near mortgage payment levels.

In my state it's a raging issue that homeowners feel very strongly about & my state isn't the only one like it.
We are tired of the Tax and spend FSA empowered bureaucrats threatening to take our homes away at gunpoint on threat of murder unless we pay ever higher extortion each year to be allowed to keep our own properties.

Its not only homeowners but businesses as well. Businesses pay property tax yearly on land, buildings, vehicles, and inventory. It’s disgusting and a huge deterrent to small business. Its a shame a business owner has to pay a yearly tax on things he already owns and needs to operate a business. @RyanScott is clueless.

Irony is the carbon taxes beget entrepreneurialism and promote capitalism/competition, which the left are against. Making the price of carbon dependent goods go up due to the pass through of taxes invites innovation and efficiency in new sectors. The end result can be a lesser carbon footprint, but money will be made along the way for sure by early adopters. At the end of the day though, the public still pays more as cost of production will ultimately rise as investments will need to be recouped in the lower carbon producing sector.

Bottom line, the consumer will pay morE due to the progressive agenda.

As a business owner in TX, I fully agree with this. I paid sales tax to acquire my equipment, I shouldn’t be paying annual property tax as well!

Good thing he's talking about land taxes and not property taxes.

Most business owners would do well under a land value tax. They'd save a bunch of money on taxes.

Landlords might not like it so much.

So let me get this straight....
A land owner would get taxed extra because he owns land that he already pays property taxes on to begin with, but now gets to pay a “land” tax too?

How long before we have a skin color tax and a height advantage tax?

The original idea behind the land tax was that it would replace all other taxes (like sales taxes, income taxes, etc).

The property tax would go away, so you'd no longer be taxed on buildings.

Read his post again, he said property tax on inventory. I also pay property tax on equipment used in the running of the business, from everything computers to equipment. It all gets declared and audited if I don’t pay it.

Same issue. I'm talking about removing taxes on inventory, FF&E, buildings, etc. No audits, no compliance, nothing.

In exchange you pay a higher tax on land. That's it. The price of land would probably fall, but the real reward would be diverting all that money that gets shipped to places like Manhattan or Irvine, or wherever your lender operates. That money would stay local.

The other benefit? 50% of land value is concentrated in the 6% of land that is urbanized.

Guess it depends where you’re at, no income tax in TX and 10% tax on the value of my land would exceed my exorbitant property tax.

i personally feel any tax on something I already own is wrong.

The thing that's lost most of all in these discussions, is that businesses do not pay taxes. No matter if it's property or sales tax, or land tax. The only thing that pays taxes in this country is the individual. All cost to a business are passed through in the cost of a good or service to the end user. PERIOD.

any business or corporate tax is a tax on the individual citizens. But yet the socialists just want to use corporate taxes like it doesn't effect the lower or middle class. It certainly does, and directly.

Some people just don't actually understand the concept of freedom and just plain love being government slaves.
They try to make nice excuses for it but it's wrong from the get go.

Trying to rename you "Property Tax" into a "Land Tax" is typical thieving politician double speak.

So let me spell it out for those who might be taken in by the stupidity of the sirens selling a boat load of slavery under the guise of "but we needs our gobment"....

You can't do anything without some land to do it on unless you want to try going and living on a boat your entire life or something like that.

Land just like any other property is something you MUST be able to OWN if you want to be a FREE MAN

The Moment you let the government or any other group "tax" your land, property or whatever, you are no longer a free man. ESPECIALLY if they tax your land. Now you are very literally back to feudal times and are nothing but a serf who gets to keep staying on the land so long as they pay enough taxes / fees / rent / labour to the ruling lord.

There is NO way around it. You CANNOT be free if you are forced to pay some tax to the government for your own property. (And trying to say well it's not a property tax, just a land tax is pure BS). Who LOVES property taxes as well as the government is the rich elites. You get taxed off your land and they get to come in and take it on the cheap, or simply force you off it with taxes, then take it all, get a monopoly in the area and charge whatever they want to rent it out to people.

    So NO, NEVER, ABSOLUTELY NOT!

When you get the chance to remake society, make sure you put it as a irrevocable basic right that nobody may be charged any tax, fee or any other charge on their own land and their own property.

If you go back and study the Mosaic Law, there was a big hard rule that your land was given to your family by God going down the generations and nobody could take it from you. You could sell it, but every 50 years it all went back to the family regardless of anything else (along with all debts being voided and all slaves being freed). Your land should be between you and God, that is the only way you can actually be free.

    Back to the topic.
The number doesn't matter. Minimum wage will always be minimum wage. If you take a $9/hr employee and give him a raise to $15 then the $10/hr goes to $16 and the $11)hr goes to $17 and so on. Inflation will jump in order to compensate for the increase.
So let's make minimum wage.......ummm I don't know, how does $50/hr sound? Then you can eliminate the $1 dollar bills and probably the $5 also. And forget about carrying your money in a wallet. It'll take a wheelbarrow to buy a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk.
