Is anyone using the SAS flash hider or brake in combination with their suppressor? Are they as large as they look in pictures? Do you recommend them over direct thread? All help is appreciated.

I have them, they kinda look uncircumsized, but I have been happy with mine. Any quick attach will have some sort of overhang, I imagine.

I have been running them for nearing 2 years. I have run all of them, from SS to TI and you will be happy with either or. The differences most will run in the weight and cost, from there, no real difference noted. I started off preferring the SS, then the customers forced me to run the TI .30cal's constantly so that is what made me decide on the TI can. The muzzle brakes are very nice, efficient and work reliably for direct connection point as well. I believe MHSA has them both instock at this time, do not try to contact SAS direct, he is a little swamped with my end at this time, he he.

I don't find it too bulky.
edit: I see what you mean, on the SAS website they look huge mounted on a pencil barrel. They look much more normal on a heavier barrel.

I'm running the SS, and I have been very impressed with the performance. POI shift is minimal, and it's very quite.

I have one of SAS' stainless 30 cal cans. It's my first and only can, so I don't have anything to compare it to... but I've been really happy with it. I can't think of anything to complain about. No loss of accuracy and minimal POI shift which was absolutely repeatable on my FN SPR (which I've since sold).
When my McM HTG gets here for my LTR I'll be sending it to wnroscoe and am having him put the SAS brake on as well. It will be nice to be able to shoot the can on a bolt gun again. Lately I've been shooting it quite a bit on an AR. I got one of the flash hider adapters for that role and it works well. Kinda heavy for the AR but it's nice to be able to use it on multiple rifles.

I just got one of the new style QD FH from Stacey. My old mounts were identical to Smith Vortex types, this is the new swirly, cutter type.
They work fine and dont look nearly as goofy as the web pic.

SierraCharlie: The mount in JRose's pic is the QD mount. Its a flashider with threads on the outside. There was some talk of a quick disconnect type or improved version, but apparently that has been mothballed (just a guess on my part).
