I have several precision rifles including my holy grail rifle, the Savage 110 BA in .338 Laupa. The problem with shooting the Laupa is the cost of the round. Each time I go to the range it cost me a hundred dollars to shoot. So I recently purchased the above listed precision rifle. During my research of the rifle, I have found both good and bad comments about the stock. Anyone out there with an opinion or experience with that particluar stock? I have nightforce glass mounted on it and it seems to perfrom as expected but I hear stories about the stock vibrating and flexing. Any opinion or suggestion would be appreciated.

Re: Savage 10 .308 Precision Carbine

Sounds like you wanted this as a cheaper alternate to the 338 lapua, did you think about the BA in 308. It would have given you the less expensive round and allowed you to maintain the same fit and feel of the 338.
It would allow for a more seamless transition between rifles.

Re: Savage 10 .308 Precision Carbine

I just picked up a Savage 10FCP-SR with the "Tactical" Accustock on it. By "Tactical" I mean it is wider in the forend than the 10PC(my buddy bought the 10PC-5R the same day) and the stock is pretty flimsy in my opinion. The bedding in the stock seems ok but it is pretty much hollow around the aluminum. He had the normal 10PC first and it was pretty accurate, we didn't really notice the stock doing anything out of the ordinary. I'm going to go shoot mine this weekend and see how it does.

Re: Savage 10 .308 Precision Carbine

I have had two 10PC's, .223 and .308. The stock, IMO, is outstanding. I understand how you could get the "flimsy" impression from it; but it is not. I have not heard of these problems or experienced on either of mine. The PC is hands down one of my all time favorites.

I have two too and I took the stocks off and trashed them, then replaced them with an HS Precison varmint stock

Re: Savage 10 .308 Precision Carbine

Upgrade the stock, it is worth it. I have a Savage target action in a McMillan A-3 and a 10PC in a Choate Tac and they are both way more rigid than the factory stocks.

Re: Savage 10 .308 Precision Carbine

That is not a bad idea but I already purchased the 10 PC. I guess it may be my next purchase. I appreciate all of the input from everyone and I am going to do some testing before I decide on changing stocks. I haven't had a opportunity to shoot it other than to zero the rifle (less than 10 rounds) at 100 yards and it seemed accurate.

Re: Savage 10 .308 Precision Carbine

Man I love my savage but the lack of good stocks (i like hunting style) at a good price has me trying to sell mine. Its too expensive to get it the way I went compared to a 700. Its disappointing.

Would it be impossible to stiffen up the stocks using some type of rod and epoxy? Seems like everybody wants to buy something better than making what they already have better.

No, it isn't impossible. I have done exactly that several times. It isn't difficult at all, just time consuming if you do it right. Too many people try and rush this modification, and then regret what results they are getting.

Even though I do this modification, there is nothing that I can do to the factory stock that will equal or even come close to a Manners stock... which is what I am currently waiting on right now. Manners is where it's at!!

Re: Savage 10 .308 Precision Carbine

I have an FCP-K in .308 and the stock is the part of the rifle I hate the most. It is an excellent rifle, short of that crappy accustock. If it stays around, it will go into an XLR.

Re: Savage 10 .308 Precision Carbine

Wanted to give everyone an update on the savage stock. If I front load the bi-pod it seems the impact of the rounds change. I quit front loading the stock and I am accurate out to a 1000 yards so far. My next build is a MK12, if anyone has experience with that firearm please respond to that post. Thank you for all of your input and help!

Re: Savage 10 .308 Precision Carbine

i do have a savage 10 PC in 223
the rifle shoots on average 0,6moa with my recent load.
in my opinion the stock is not flimsy at all.
its a sort of hard plastik that is molded around the alu bedding block . the form of it is close to the m40a1 stock wich i like for a do it all rifle
yes its hollow, but that does not hurt its perfromance in any way
i have to squeez like mad to get the forend touch the barrel
so that is a non issue to me
when using a bipod there is no way the barrel will touch the stock.

Re: Savage 10 .308 Precision Carbine

I also have the latest generation of the Savage 10PC in .308 with the threaded barrel. While I don't find the stock "the best", the gun is a shooter when I do my part. I am still tweaking my reloads, but that's my problem to figure out what the gun likes to eat.

I have an Atlas bipod out front mounted with a Seekins SRS 2.5" rail. Haven't noticed a problem with the stock flexing myself, at least not enough to get the stock and barrel touching.

Re: Savage 10 .308 Precision Carbine

I didnt care much for the stock. It did seem pretty flimsy and I agree with above comment about poi shift when front load the bipod. So I sent miine off to kevin Rayhill for a facelift.
