now when the gun is clean first 3 rounds dead center 1/2" groups next 7 shots 1" high anything above that 3" high @ 100 yards.not sure if i am posting this in right forum.
what do you guys think barell bad ? i heard savage rifles are hard to clean and get dirty quick.

let me know what you think

Re: savage 10 FCP HS Precision

not sure how fast the round are going
i will do some checking
i think i may need new barrel
there is local guy who sels shiller drop in barrels for savage

Re: savage 10 FCP HS Precision

Why do do think lapua brass, 44gr varget, and 168gr a-max is a good load for your rifle?
If it were me, I'd try a different load or two. Do other bullet weight, powder charge combinations display similar results? Does it shoot good consistent groups if you don't clean it?
I'm interested in how you resolve this issue. Keep us posted.

i have the same rifle, and you are very close to duplicating my load to a t.i shoot 45 grns varget, lapua brass, and 175 match bullets.if it were me i remove the scope, then the barreled action, check the base screws, then put every thing back together properly.vertical stringing in my little bit of experience points to bedding , or poor reloading, temperature can cause vertical variations also, example if you shoot a 5 or ten shot group, then chamber the next round and wait a few min.the cartridge is setting in the chamber being heated, wich will increase the pressure when you fire it causing more velocity.my money is on the action screws.

Same here with the same rifle...I had to skim bed mine to get it out of a bind. Mag was hard to get in and out. After a skim bed no problems....I did tight patch the barrel over good with JB bore paste and things improved greatly...Mine seems to like the 190's better than the 175's, but I can't complain about either....I torque my stock at 60 inch pounds...
