I've had this rifle for a couple of months and finally got it to the range this afternoon. I wanted something relativley inexpensive and accurate out of the box as I'm waiting on a Rem 700 .308 and I also got in on the group buy with JD Machine for an AR15 receiver so I was hoping this Savage wouldn't need anything other than glass and mounts. This is my first new bolt action rifle in over 15 years so I'm excited to get back into rifle shooting. I've spent the last few years at the range firing hand guns and rimfires since selling my AR15.
Todays range visit was semi-successful. I thought I calculated correctly with a 20 MOA rail but I ran out of elevation adjustment at 100 yards and was 5" high consistently. I adjusted for the 5" to see if I could get a decent group and determined the rifle has potential that I need to realize by becoming a better shooter. While I'm not totally discouraged, I'll work on the fundamentals until I tighten up these groups.
Rifle: Savage 10 PC
Scope: Wotac 4-14x50
Rail: EGW 20 MOA
Rings: Burris XTR 30mm Low
Ammo: PMC .223 Rem 55gr FMJBT
Distance: 100 yards
After the zero at 25, 50 and 100, here's the 2 10 round groups.
I'm open to comments and criticism.
Thanks
