I've had this rifle for a couple of months and finally got it to the range this afternoon. I wanted something relativley inexpensive and accurate out of the box as I'm waiting on a Rem 700 .308 and I also got in on the group buy with JD Machine for an AR15 receiver so I was hoping this Savage wouldn't need anything other than glass and mounts. This is my first new bolt action rifle in over 15 years so I'm excited to get back into rifle shooting. I've spent the last few years at the range firing hand guns and rimfires since selling my AR15.

Todays range visit was semi-successful. I thought I calculated correctly with a 20 MOA rail but I ran out of elevation adjustment at 100 yards and was 5" high consistently. I adjusted for the 5" to see if I could get a decent group and determined the rifle has potential that I need to realize by becoming a better shooter. While I'm not totally discouraged, I'll work on the fundamentals until I tighten up these groups.

Rifle: Savage 10 PC
Scope: Wotac 4-14x50
Rail: EGW 20 MOA
Rings: Burris XTR 30mm Low
Ammo: PMC .223 Rem 55gr FMJBT
Distance: 100 yards

After the zero at 25, 50 and 100, here's the 2 10 round groups.

I'm open to comments and criticism.

Your ammo choice is fine for getting on paper.

Get some 68 or 69 grain match ammo and you'll wonder why there is only one hole in the paper.

I'd go with a flat base, unless you plan on taking that thing out to 800 yards.

I'm with you. I have a flat base that I'm swapping it out with and some Black Hills 68 gr Match on order that should be here Tuesday. I figured the 40 rounds of PMC would get me sighted today and cheaply. Thanks

So far so good. Today was the first chance to use it at the range. Minus the issue with the 20 MOA rail, I think it'll be a great scope. The glass is very clear and sharp and although I only got 40 rounds in today, I like the reticle. The turrets were a little mushy but I've heard that before so I think I'll pull the caps during the week and remove some of the grease to see if I get a positive click before I go to the range again next week. I liked it enough before getting it to the range to buy a second one.

Thanks, I'll try it.
