Purchased this weapon and have not been able to get it to shoot half moa with any 168 or 175 gr bullets. Handloads or factory. It will however shoot half to 3\4 moa with 149 gr federal ball ammo . I have gone over the weapon and made sure the scope is secure and level . I have checked to make sure the barrel is not touching the stock. I have tried my light varmit loads also 110 noslers and it prints the same as the 168 gr always over 1 moa. At 200 yds with 175 gr smk it printed 5 inches. 168 at 200yds 2 1\4 . Short of sending it back to the manufacture does anyone have any ideas ?

I load below max stepping up . Chronograph everything I load. Speeds are well below max. They are certainly below military speed. I had considered that the 175 gr load was a little slow. At 2400.

Yes the crown is clean. No I havent tried another scope . The reason I have not tried another scope is it shoots the 149 grain bullets fine. No I havent had anbody else shoot it . Not to sound like a know it all but im a trained marksman with more than 20 yrs behind a rifle shooting little bitty targets very far away and dont need somebody else to shoot it. I have had other rifles that wouldnt shoot in the past and it was floating or scope mounting or it just didnt like a certain type of bullet. Ive always had 308 rifles with 1:10 twist rate rem 700 sps shot 1\4 min. This is my first r5. So I expected it to shoot the 175 gr smks with no problem. So I guess what im wondering is what is it about the r5 or is it the barrel just isnt going to shoot heavy bullets.

That is what I was thinking . I shot some hornady match hpbt 168 and it didnt do any better. So thats why I wasnt sure going any faster with the 175 load was worth it.

I would really look into putting more powder in the cases next time you load up some more cartridges. I am running 43.5gr of Varget and have not seen any pressure signs. 44.5gr also grouped well and showed no signs of pressure for me.

I am using IMR 4064 . And I agree I need to speed it up . I have some of the military sniper ammo 175 gr inbound as we speak and plan on running it through the chrono . I have 50 175 gr smks left so ill do another series of step up loads.
