Savage 110FP, who has one?

I just picked one up last week in 300WM, it has the heavy varmint barrel with less than 10 rounds down the tube. This particular rifle was built in Jan 1998, and there is the problem. Savage redesigned their long actions at some point between now and then so finding stocks and bottom metal is impossible, this has the 5.062" screw length. Besides a B&C duramaxx stock is there anything out there? I just hit the order button on a timney trigger and EGW rail but I need a stock and bottom metal, this factory synthetic crap ain't gonna do it. Any insight would be helpful.

The good part is after selling the Springfield scope and harris bipod I only have $70 in the rifle haha.

You can try tactical works. They have a couple of different stocks available for Savage LA rifles from Choate and Bell and Carlson.

CDI is offering bottom metal, but I am not sure if it is for the older screw spacing or the new spacing. I would send them an email to find out. They are good people to work with and respond quickly.

Good luck with your search. All of my Savages (only 3) are SA. There are not a lot of aftermarket parts available.

You could also check with Fred at savage shooters supply, but be forwarned, if you are not VERY patient, you will be frustrated in a hurry. Also let it be known that you will be told that parts are in stock when they are not and you will be billed for them immediately! This is in no way an indorsement for buying from sss.

There are plenty of options...question is how much do you want to spend? Figure out your budget then ask questions.

All long-action Savages have 5.062" action screw spacing...regardless if they are an older "staggerfeed" (mag attached to action) long action or newer "centerfeed" (mag fixed in stock) long action.

Not changing the long action bolt spacing is one thing Savage has done right, because God knows they've changed enough shit seemingly for change's sake over the last decade...

A staggerfeed LA will fit in a centerfeed LA stock and vice versa...you just might have to do a little work for the magazine. I know this because I put a staggerfeed LA into a centerfeed LA BVSS stock and had to take a dremel to the mag inlet to make deep enough for the attached blind magazine.

Mass-production stocks for Savage LA are limited; you're pretty much left with the B&C Duramaxx or Choate Tactical/Varmint/Sniper. McMillan and Manners make very nice Savage stocks, however...with Stockade being another good option that's less expensive than a McM or Manners.

CDI also makes not one but two different DBMs for long action Savage, and can inlet any stock for them. Their DBMs are a "traditional long action" that uses AICS 300WM magazines and another "LA/308 mag box" DBM that uses AICS 308 magazines.

Here's my Savage 110 long action *223AI* using a McMillan A5 and CDI LA/308 DBM.

Re: Savage 110FP, who has one?

Thanks for the info. When I talked to Savage last week they said they changed the design of the LA and the older style is longer. Maybe the girl I talked to was thinking about her baby daddy or something.

For a stock I am looking at a Duramaxx but I really want a HSP like the one I have on my 10FCPHS. The bottom metal isn't a huge deal because I don't really need detachable mags but it makes it nice.

Budget isn't really a problem because I have time to save and per diem is a regular income haha. Is the duramaxx stock able to be inletted for a DBM? Would I have to send the stock to CDI for them to do it?

Thanks for all the help, this is my first jump into the LA world.

Re: Savage 110FP, who has one?

I think the girl you spoke with at Savage was confused; the only real difference between a Savage centerfeed LA and a staggerfeed LA is the magazine.

As for the Duramaxx being suitable for DBM, I'm not sure but I don't see why not; you can always drop CDI an email and they'll tell you for certain. If it is suitable, CDI can inlet it for you for a reasonable price and very quick turnaround.

HS Precision does make a Savage long action stock, but I dunno if you can buy it directly through them or even directly from Savage. You might have to keep an eye on the classifieds forum here for a 110FCP-HS takeoff (I've seen a couple over the last year).

I've previously owned two Duramaxx stocked rifles and while they're very good at their price point, I'm quite confident you'd be a bazillion times happier with a Manners MCS-T. Get it configured EXACTLY how you want and inletted directly from them for the DBM of your choice.

Re: Savage 110FP, who has one?

The only change the Long actions have seen to my knowledge is from flat rear to rounded for scope base. Stock options are the same. Unless you're going $500+ on a stock and looking manners, mcmillan, mcree, etc I would look very hard for one of the HS stocks. I picked one up off here ~1month ago that's gonna be used on my LA build. It's the only stock really worth a damn that you can find for a reasonable price.

Re: Savage 110FP, who has one?

I did drop CDI an email and they said they could do it I'm just waiting on a price now. I will definitely keep my eyes open for an HS take off. Thanks for all the info guys.

Re: Savage 110FP, who has one?

I used to have a old 110 300WM in a Choate stock. It was a shooter. Replaced the trigger with a Timmney and good to go. CDI is good people and will do a fine job on your bottom metal. I have one going out this week to them. Second one.

Re: Savage 110FP, who has one?

I got a timney and egw base on the way now, should be here tomorrow actually. Once I get a price from CDI I may get a duramaxx and give it to them. Ten hold out for a HS down the road. The glass is gonna be the big killer.
