I picked up a Savage 12 LRPV in .223 today, and took it to the range to shoot with my 10FP .308. I mounted a Nikon Monarch 5.5-16.5x44AO, and tried a few loads I had laying around. I finally got around to trying some factory Fiocchi Exacta Match ammo I bought at the gun show, and it shot very well. Here are a few groups at 100 yards...

Does it have the 1:9 or 1:7 twist barrel? Looks like it is going to be a shooter.

Re: Savage 12 LRPV .223...

I'm honestly not sure. I traded for the gun, but I think its a 1/9. I'm going to work up a load with 75gr bullets and see how it shoots.

Re: Savage 12 LRPV .223...

Should say on the barrel just forward of the barrel nut.

Something along the lines of: " Savage Arms model 12 .223 REM X" twist" whereas X=twist rate either 9 or 7

Re: Savage 12 LRPV .223...

If it's shooting the 77's that well, I'd guess it's a 7 twist.

looks like a shooter to me! May have to try some of this Fiocchi ammo! How much did it run you?
