Gunsmithing Savage bolt

Hello, I have a question regarding a Savage bolt. The bolt is out of the rifle and the firing pin has released forward. Is there a simple way to get that back to the cocked position so I can get the bolt back into the rifle?

hook the cocking piece on a table and push down, pop it over onto the notch

Just don't do it on your wife's Chippendale table.

You can also back off the Bolt Assembly Screw enough to get it cocked and then tighten it back up.

Hook it on your boot lace. Or, use your Thumb if your tuff.

So you going to tell us how the heck that happened.

A combination of Geargrinder and the push down an the hard surface works if you have woman hands. Me...I use my teeth.

I did it once and wondered the same thing but I was able to put it back into place by pushing it with my thumb. Takes a lot of effort though.

If you can't find something to push it down on, or you don't want to mess up your table, a shoe lace or some 550 cord around it will pull it back. Its hard to grab, but it gets the job done.

I just use a 1/4" delrin punch.
